TotallyOz Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Speaking with The Phuket News this morning, Gen Phanu said, “We have been very lenient about this. I’ve had many comments about [our excessive leniency]." Several factors have come together to kill off the tourist visa run. The first, as already reported in The Phuket News is fallout from the disappearance of Malaysian Airlines flight MH370. Two Iranian men boarded that flight using passports that had been stolen or went missing in Phuket a couple of years before. Hence a tightening-up on passports was inevitable. But another major concern is the number of foreigners working illegally, the General said. “Lots of nationalities come to Thailand on tourist visas but they come to work. I really want them to do the right thing, not try to dodge around the law and evade taxes." He said that Russians, South Koreans and Vietnamese in particular are in the spotlight. “Immigration is keeping an eye on them.” That said, other nationalities will not escape notice. - See more at: http://www.thephuketnews.com/immigration-boss-confirms-the-out-in-visa-run-is-dead-46240.php#sthash.kjn51VMP.dpuf http://www.thailandvisa.com/topic/4396-immigration-boss-confirms-the-out-in-visa-run-is-dead/ Quote
Guest Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Will be interesting to see how this works. Can one still have a sensible holiday plan arriving at BKK, moving to Cambodia after a couple of days, then coming back into Thailand ~10 days later, WITHOUT loads of extra checks? Surely they can have software which distinguishes between people who visit Thailand say 1~4 times a year and those who have 26 or 52 re-entries per year, with >300 days spent in Thailand? Quote
vinapu Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 I like General's frankness and lack of political correctness by pointing trouble making nations. Imagine some official in the West listing troublesome nations, hell would brak loose and he would be demoted to rank of sergeant in no time ChristianPFC 1 Quote
