GoldMember Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Hey guys, when you arrive at the airport just go to one of the cellphone stores and ask for a sim card with unlimited internet coverage for a month (about 400 BHT). Use the internet to communicate with home and you should be OK for the rest of your trip: skype, whatsapp etc. Just did that for the past week and worked fine for me. vinapu 1 Quote
TotallyOz Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I use 12Call and I book a 3G plan. It is very fast in Bangkok and does well in Pattaya but not as fast as Bangkok. The cost is 899 for one month. When you go to get a Sim Card, ask them your options and they will tell you. I always have the BF call them and talk as he gets the best deal when you can chat in their language. But, most owners of the phone booths know the plans pretty well. Esp. if you get from MBK like most of my friends do. Quote

Use the internet to communicate with home and you should be OK for the rest of your trip: skype, whatsapp etc. Just did that for the past week and worked fine for me. check the fine print on any package - at that price in Thailand "unlimited" would mean 500MB or 1GB at 3G speeds then the rest of the "unlimited" month is at 2G speeds, so text messages, some email and some surfing the web no problem, but skype can chew up the MB very quickly at 3G speeds but is almost unusable at 2G speeds when you exceed you "unlimited" limit. it worked for GoldMember for a week but depending on your usage two weeks or more may be pushing it for such a data plan! perhaps do some estimates of the cost of mobile or cheap phone card call home at per minute rates v's the price of a skype call at data rates bkkguy Quote
Guest Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 On my last trip I purchased a DTAC SIM card, for about 400 baht. The speed seemed rather slow. I used it mainly for checking out travel and "social networking" (ie Gay Romeo) when away from the hotel or local coffee shops. Something faster would be nice. You only need to avoid one off fee, or turn a couple of taxi rides into bus fares & the cost of the SIM card is recovered. Quote
