TotallyOz Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Tawan is one of long time famous a-go-go boy bars in Thailand, established since 1987. By that time, a number of gay bars were opening gradually. Consequently, the executive tried to make it different from others by promoting Tawan as a centre of muscular men in Thailand. Tawan is located in the middle of Bangkok’s gay entertaining area, Soi Tarntawan, Surawong Road (opposite to The Tawana Bangkok Hotel). http://www.tawanbarbangkok.com/eng Tawan Bar, 2/1-2 Soi Tarntawan (opposite to The Tawana Bangkok Hotel), Surawong Rd., Bamgrak, Bangkok, 10500 http://www.gaythailand.com/forums/topic/5267-tawan-bar-review/?hl=tawan http://www.gaythailand.com/forums/topic/5161-bodybuilders-tawan-bar-versus-massage-parlors/?hl=tawan Quote
TotallyOz Posted February 13, 2013 Author Posted February 13, 2013 I have taken friends who love muscle guys to this bar and they love it. I have also found quite a few guys over the years from this bar that I like. Most of their guys seem to be a bit older than I like but there is no question that this is the bar for big! The massage place next to this bar is also nice and there are several other good massage places on the same soi. Also, at the end if the Mango Tree Restaurant. If you are planning to go to Tawan, have a nice meal beforehand at Mango Tree. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 When I am with overseas visitors who are interested in seeing a go-go bar, I usually try to take them to one I like. I have never enjoyed Tawan, if only because I have no interest in muscle-type boys. The other night, though, after dinner with two friends, both said Tawan was where they wanted to go.We arrived just at the end of the show to see three boys doing a jerk-off competition. That used to be a standard in many bars, but I have not seen it in other bars for some years. The bar was very full. As we looked around the audience it was clear that most of the patrons were Thais and other Asians – only around 6 farang.I stayed for another 40 minutes, possibly the most boring time I have spent in any bar in years. With a couple of exceptions, the ‘boys’ on stage looked to be around 40. Not one smiled or made any attempt even to do even a soft-shoe shuffle. Some were checking their mobile phones. All looked bored rigid, presumably because the patrons were starting to leave the bar in droves along with their hopes of an off for the night. By shortly after midnight, there were only our group and a couple of other rather large farang left. One ‘boy’ with a small beard and a heavy-set unattractive (to me) face plonked himself beside me for a while, totally uninvited. I smiled and said ‘no’, indicating very clearly I had zero interest. He then did everything he could to get me to buy him a drink. I have seen pushy mamasans, but never a ‘boy’ as pushy and persistent – and frankly, as unpleasant – as this. After waving off all his advances and refusing to buy him a drink or give him a tip, he finally got the message, loudly dismissing me as a “pussy lover” as he did so. Is this the normal sort of behaviour in Tawan? I read of many people who seem to idolise it. That’s the last time I ever set foot in the place! Quote
ChristianPFC Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I am pretty sure I once went to Tawan, must have been three years ago. It is very low in my list of gogo bars to go, and after this report, and seeing their adverts in gay publications, it stays at the bottom of my list. I once had a pushy boy in Wild West Boys, took me a year to overcome that experience and be prepared to enter WWB again (however every time I had a look there was either show in progress or too few boys on stage). Recently, I had a pushy boy in Eros. He finally got the message that I am not interested and said: "I see you don't like me" which is not true, I just have no interest in conversation with him, but I didn't explain. It can't be that hard to figure out if someone is interested or not, I would say one minute is sufficient. Quote
williewillie Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 When anyone is obnoxious, pushy, and in your face, One does not have to be polite and nice. It's time to stand up for yourself and be direct and strong. It works with even the worst mamasans. They won't like you and may give you a dirty look, but you will feel you did the right thing and maintain your self respect. Be firm, direct and unapologetic. Niceness equals weakness, when dealing with pushy obnoxious people. Quote
a447a Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I remember the early days at Tawan when there were young muscle guys, many of whom were quite handsome. My last 2 visits have been disappointing, as they are now just a bunch of fat old guys who make no eye contact at all. They are not averse to trying to sit with you and get a drink, though. I don't think I'll ever go back. And I had a horrible "massage" at Indra Massage across the soi. The boy was 110% straight and didn't want to do anything gay at all. Quote
