Guest thaiworthy Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Found this great new time waster. Unlike traditional flight-tracking programs, this one purportedly shows all flights in the air worldwide. You can click on a particular flight to see the airline, embarkation/debarkation, aircraft type, etc. It is just this type of thing that heightens the anticipation of going to Thailand. You can zoom into Thailand to see how much air activity it has. Just one more folly to add to our growing list of airplane, airline discussions. Not sure how useful this could be, but it is fun. Perhaps you could use it to track a flight that is arriving from a loved one, or a late arrival that is destined to be used as the equipment for your departure. Has a lot of search functions and a database of "last seen" flights, and types of aircraft, airports. http://planefinder.net/ Has all sorts of mobile apps as well. http://planefinder.net/about/ What? No one's going to Africa? Just before I posted this, I could see about 7700 planes in flight. Looks to me like Michael's travel map itinerary for the rest of 2013: Oops! Maybe this thread belongs in the Beer Bar? My mistake. Can it be moved? Quote

Guest thaiworthy Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 You mean the ones that have disappeared off the face of the earth?? "Last seen" probably means last updated position. FH, I think you've been watching too many Twilight Zone episodes on YouTube. Quote

Guest Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Planefinder look interesting, but I think it's missing a few flights. African and China look surprisingly quiet. There are only 2 planes close to Bangkok, but BKK is expecting several arrivals in the next 15 minutes. Not to mention departures and anything using DMK. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 I'm not sure if the map attached to the OP is interactive. I suspect it cannot be. Like z909. I noticed some anomalies this morning - almost no flights other than on the east coast of South America, for example. Then I realised that it was nighttime there, but some flights still should be in the air. Now when it is the afternoon, there are still almost no flights when Argentina, Chile and Peru should certainly have quite a few. But the app looks fascinating. Now all I need is a smartphone that can use the app! Not sure I want to go back to 1939. But if you can shave about 20 years off my age, I will be absolutely delighted Quote
