Heart Beat Go Go and new Super A in BKK

Visited these two bars last night. The New Super A (not sure if that is the real name) is underneath the old one which has now closed. On my last visit a few months back just after it opened, it was pretty dismal with only 5 boys, 2 cockroaches (not the human variety  ), a tiny stage and overloud music. Now the atmosphere is slightly improved – the volume of the music is way down, it's darker, there are more sofas and a dozen boys. I would not rate them highly for looks, but I had a drink with a cute one who, despite being small in height, was far from small elsewhere! Also chatted with a tall, slim Lao boy with a gorgeous smile who was perfectly happy to show off his assets. Drinks were Bt. 150.

HeartBeat Club Go Go is located at the end of a small sub-soi close to the Wall Street Tower – on the other side of Suriwong from Soi Twilight and a little closer to Patpong. It’s been open for about a year. I had heard about the bar before but had never bothered venturing in to it.

It’s quite a large space with comfortable booths on two sides of a stage. There is no show but the dancing is much more energetic than you will see on any of the Soi Twilight stages. We counted about 14 boys, of whom 10 were definitely femme. But what we noticed most, apart from the vitality of the dancing, was that all the boys were having fun – and this was infectious.

I found one of the waiters (straight-acting but gay) extremely attractive and we had a couple of drinks. I’m wondering when to go back!   :good:  Drinks were Bt. 250.

(sorry Michael - had not realised till after posting that you had a short thread about Heart Beat last November)

Thanks FH - that HeartBeat Club Go Go definitely sounds like my kind of place!

I'll be checking it out in March/April when I visit Bangkok again.

Cheers.

On Sunday I returned to the new Super A and Heart Beat Club. Beforehand, my two friends and I met up for dinner at Anna’s Café in Soi Phipat (between Silom and Sathorn). I have been a regular ever since the first restaurant opened in Soi Saladaeng about 15 years ago. At one time it had several branches, but I believe now it is limited to just one.

I have no idea what happened between our last visit only a few weeks ago and Sunday evening, but for the first time the experience was close to mediocre. To start with there were only three other tables occupied. Since this is quite a large space with rather unflattering lighting, there was little atmosphere. The waiters have always been one of Anna’s strong points, being both cute and efficient. This time we had a new one who seemed to be some kind of captain. Sadly he had little knowledge of even basic English. When one of the dishes, a “chef’s special” lamb curry, arrived cold, we asked for it to be heated up. The waited hadn’t a clue. It took several attempts before he seemed to understand and took the dish away. It returned a couple of minutes later – no warmer. Again it was difficult making him understand. He hadn’t a clue what “hot” or “cold” meant! Eventually, it was taken back to the kitchen and returned fifteen minutes later when we’d finished the rest of the meal. Now it was hot; but tasteless!

To be fair, Anna’s desserts have always been mouthwatering. Our apple crumbles and toffee banoffee pies were quite delicious. Hopefully this was just an ‘off’ night. If not, I fear for the restaurant’s future. I have always felt this location is too far out of the way with little hope of passing traffic.

After dinner, we hit the New Super A again (below the old one). The only change we noted was the presence of more boys – around a dozen, with fortunately three whom we reckoned ‘cute’. There was no dancing on the little stage – not even soft-shoe shuffles. Just a row of guys in the dim lighting. But we chatted to some who were as willing as before to exhibit their assets.

The only disagreeable incident was one of my friends had bought a drink for a boy. Less than two minutes later, the mamasan came up and said the boy had to leave as he had been booked by a previous customer. My friend started to argue about not paying for the drink, but finally gave up.

The experience at Heart Beat Club was also different from the last visit – maybe because it was quite late on a Sunday evening. There were only half the number of boys and the dancing lacked the energy and enthusiasm we had noted only a couple of weeks earlier. There was only one other customer there being attended by one of the ladyboys and the cute waiter I had hoped to have a drink with. But when the farang departed after a few minutes, the waiter came and sat with me and was wonderfully affectionate! I would have taken him off but had a very early start on Monday. So I’ve arranged to meet up with him later in the week!
