Guest fountainhall Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 I occasionally use a couple of proxy sites to access internet sites that either my server or the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology deems unsuitable for my eyes. As has been discussed on various Boards, sawatdee-gay-thailand is not accessible to True subscribers in Bangkok, for example. However, lately I have noticed that Ministry bans have circumvented these 2 proxy sites. Trying to access one particular adult video recently through these proxies (and I stress 'adult' - it had nothing whatever to do with any other form of porn), up came the Ministry notice in Thai and English - Sorry for any inconvenience. The page you are trying to visit has been blocked by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology. For more information, please contact Ministry of Information and Communication Technology 120 Moo 3, floor 6, Government Complex Commemorating His Majesty the Kings 80th Birthday Changwattana Road, Laksi, Bangkok 10210 Tel. 02-141-6950 I am less concerned about the video being blocked, and more about proxy servers being blocked. Is this usual in Thailand? Do proxy servers have a life span? Should one change them from time to time? Since His Majesty celebrated his 80th Birthday in December 2007, perhaps the Ministry needs to update its warnings! Quote
TotallyOz Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 If you have a Mac, let me suggest NetShade. It is great. Quote
TotallyOz Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 I have used it for 5 years or so when I came to BKK one time and could access sites in USA. I bought this and have gone through at least 4 major revisions. It is a paid program to access THEIR servers which are fast and easy to use. I love it. Quote
bkkguy Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 I am less concerned about the video being blocked, and more about proxy servers being blocked. Is this usual in Thailand? the Ministry regularly blocks public proxy servers as they become more popular, it rarely blocks VPN services Since His Majesty celebrated his 80th Birthday in December 2007, perhaps the Ministry needs to update its warnings! why? "Government Complex Commemorating His Majesty the Kings 80th Birthday" is the current name of the building they are located in - buildings and roads celebrating specific events are not usually re-named every year, it would cause a lot of confusion! bkkguy Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 buildings and roads celebrating specific events are not usually re-named every year Thanks. I was not aware that entire phrase was the name of the actual building! Quote
