Guest thaiworthy Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Lady Gaga has met Thailand's premier ladyboys at a Bangkok drag show featuring busty dancers who were not born that way . . . But not all cities will greet Lady Gaga as warmly as Thailand. Lady Gaga's Asian tour has generated publicity and often controversy at nearly every stop.In Seoul, fans younger than 18 were banned from Lady Gaga's concerts after Christian groups complained that her lyrics and costumes were too sexually provocative. It remains unclear if her June 3 show in Jakarta will take place after Muslim hard-liners threatened violence. Indonesian police initially denied a permit but later hinted the show could go on if she tones it down. Not a chance, said her manager Troy Carter, who told the Straits Times in Singapore on Friday that Lady Gaga "plays the show as it is" and has no plan to self-censor. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/25/lady-gaga-thai-lady-boys_n_1545407.html Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 And the controversies don't end there! Christian groups in the Philippines have been marching in Manila. And Thai MPs and nationalists are up in arms at the damage she has done to the country's reputation because, on arrival in Bangkok, she tweeted that she couldn't wait to buy a "fake Rolex". Well, if these selfsame idealists would stand up and take a greater stand against piracy, perhaps I might have a bit of sympathy for them. As it is, I have none. Quote
Guest Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Well, if these selfsame idealists would stand up and take a greater stand against piracy, perhaps I might have a bit of sympathy for them. As it is, I have none. Well said. If a visitor inadvertently touches on the truth about piracy, Thailand's politicians should look at themselves. After all, if there was effective policing preventing piracy, it's unlikely the comment would ever have been made. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 A hard-line Islamic group has managed to get Lady Gaga's Jakarta concert cancelled. 50,000 fans will have their tickets refunded. The reason for the cancellation is the Jakarta police say they are not confident of controlling the event without trouble arising. The religious hard-liners had said they would not restrict their activities to outside the concert venue. They would buy tickets and cause chaos and violence inside. In future, pop promoters are going to think twice about taking a risk on concerts in Indonesia, just as they already do in Malaysia. So a small group of hard-liner fanatics once again disrupt the lives of the majority. Quote
