Guest pumpkin Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 I have just signed up here recently but am surprised at the lack of activity here. Is this place on life support? Quote
Rogie Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Welcome to the Forum Pumpkin. If you are hoping to incur some kind of reaction by your somewhat adversarial comment, you won't get it from me. You take us as you find us! Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Whilst it's obvious that any member can make any comments he wishes (within the Board guidelines), a review of the posts on the various forums over the last 4 - 6 weeks will show that gt.com is far from on life support. In any case, I for one fail to see the point of any poster joining any Board simply to make such a comment with his second post! It betrays some form of hidden agenda, in my view. If pumpkin feels there is a lack of posting volume and interesting threads, the least he might consider doing is starting one or more, rather than simply criticising. I will be interested to read them. Quote
Guest pumpkin Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 fountainhall, while you appear to be one of the, if not the, most prolific posters on this site. I simply appears to me that there are not many other frequent posters here. Upon reading my original post, I can see that some of you took it as hostile that was not my intent. I was just trying to see what the story is here and trying to be a bit humerous at the same time. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I think your title had me a bit fooled. As a child, I lost count of the times my mother would come into the mess than was my bedroom and resignedly say. "Look at the condition of this place." To me it has a derogatory flavour! Your comment about there not being many frequent posters is indeed true, and it is an issue that those of us who do post have been trying to address. As to being on "life-support" (a highly derogatory connotation, I suggest), if you look just on the first page of this particular Gay Thailand forum, you will note that 30 subjects were started by 13 different posters, and that the last responses were, coincidentally, also by 13 posters – but not all the same. That hardly seems to indicate either lack of activity or posters. If you then look at some of the other gay-related sites dealing with Thailand, you will again notice a core of pretty regular posters. Also, this site changed hands and was not going to continue. In that time Gaybutton started his site and drew away a lot of long term gt members, especially much of what I'd term the Pattaya contingent - those living or visiting there regularly. When the gt site eventually was sold and restarted, quite a few did not return. As you may have noted in one recent thread, there is also a degree of uncertainly as to where the on-going long-term revamp of the site will lead. Every Board finds a niche. Where I think this present Board differs from others is that quite a wide range of subjects, often not Thailand related (as in the Beer Bar), are discussed in much more depth than on other Boards, where one-line and short-paragraph responses are more the norm. This may put some potential posters off – who knows? But look back over the last year or so on all the forums and you certainly see readership of some posts way into the thousands – 7,500 or so in articles about Taipei, 7,000 about Cambodia, 4,500 about Hong Kong, many thousands about airport issues in Thailand – and several tens of thousands on gay life and specific gay topics in the country. Heck, there was even one thread about a ladyboy bar in Pattaya which drew 10,482 views in less than 3 months! So, to sum up, yes there are fewer frequent posters than on other Boards. Against that, I’d suggest that there is a greater, more reasoned and more in depth discussion of many of the topics than you will find elsewhere. Hopefully some more of these will be generated by your good self. Quote
TotallyOz Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Dear Pumpkin, I am not sure if this helps you or not, but I'll be adding some threads soon as I hope to visit and test every bar in Bangkok, Pattaya and maybe even Chiang Mai very soon. So, if you are interested in money boy updates, sit tight. If you are interested in general issues, check out the other forums on this site. They are filled with gems of information. If you are just looking to start a conversation, how about starting one on a topic I love. Tell me which bars have you been to lately, which ones do you recommend, which ones should I avoid on my next visit to Land of Smiles? That said, welcome to the site! Quote
