Guest fountainhall Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I asked this before about a year ago, and regret I cannot locate the earlier thread. But with all the recent technological advances, the answers almost certainly need updating. I certainly need my equipment updated! As I have explained before, I am not good with computers and suchlike. Now I have two issues I must resolve quite soon. For internet, I have a fixed line service through KSC in Bangkok which essentially uses True's facilities. It's more expensive, but is supposed to provide a better service, something I find hard to believe! If I change my isp, I know I can get a higher speed at a cheaper rate. elsewhere But I would now like to get a server that will also give me a much better overall package, one to which I can link the new phone I will soon purchase and the new tablet I will get - eventually. Does anyone have any suggestions? Re phone and tablet, my desktop and laptop are Apples. My phone is an ancient Nokia and I will soon get something more current, but I really don't need - nor want - all the bells and whistles that come with an iPhone. As long as a phone can make/receive calls, emails and the occasional photo, that's all I really need. (I accept, though, that as GB mentioned recently on his Board, if I were to get an iPhone or a small Galaxy, I'd probably get hooked into using it for other things as well.) But the phone would have to be smallish because I also want a tablet, and the key is that it be as light as possible. I want it for downloading books, some internet emailing and downloading, storing some data, photos and music - and that's about it. I'm not interested in watching movies or playing games on it. And I'm not into most of the apps I hear about - although the GPS positioning system and kindle apps would be great. From looking around, I really like the Galaxy 7" model in preference to the a larger ones. Does that make sense if I also have a small Galaxy phone? I realise that everyone has their own preferences, but will still be happy to read all suggestions. The key at present is recommendations about which isp plans give the best service at the best price in BKK, as I have to switch in a couple of weeks. Many thanks in advance. Quote
Guest ReneThai Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I have bought a tablet last November . It is Samsung Galaxy P1000 . I am very happy with it. I took it on holiday to Thailand and was happy with googlemaps , GPS and WIFI. The storage is about 12GB , but you can use a microsd card as well to use for downloads . I didnot use a simcard for 3G use ,only WIFI , free or at a charge in hotels . What more can I tell, I bought it in The Netherlands for 345 Euro , and guess the price in Thailand must be about the same . Quote
TotallyOz Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 You are an Apple guy and I know you don't need all the bells and whistles but it would make life and syncs so much easier. I use 12call for my Ipad in Thailand it it works fine. I got the plan for Blackberry which is cheaper but they don't check to see what phone you have. It is cheaper than an unlimited Internet sim.
