Revisiting Thailand

Many times we see in these forums that our fellow posters are making repeated trips to Thailand. Some posters live on this site when they are not there!

I first went to Thailand in 1987 as part of larger travels. I think I stayed 4 nights. Baht was 22 to the dollar and I paid about 300 baht per guy. I wished I could stay longer, but I started coming back twice a year as I was just in love with Thailand.

I very much liked the Coffee Boy cabins/bar in Chiang Mai. I stayed there many times. A private cabin was $28 a night, and the cutest boys worked the bar, including my all-time favorite guy. It was not right in town but tuk-tuks were always available. Coffee Boy was run by a man called Lulu. I liked him but I understand that not everyone did. Eventually, the place closed. Long after that I got a tuk-tuk ride through the ruins. How sad.

Anyway, I like to go to Thailand in January when it is coolest. (My first visit was in July.) I know that I have been the last two Januarys and guess that I have made about 17 visits to Thailand. I just booked another one for next winter as the business class airfare is so much lower than before.

So, I guess I will be right here with you, trying to keep track of what's happening in the Land of Smiles...and looking at @PeterRS' pictures to remind me of what these guys look like! Someday I might post a clothed photo of my all-time favorites...all clothed as I didn't take nude pix. I didn't get permission to post them either, but they have to be in their fifties now.

Sad to say that I once ran into my Chiang Mai favorite in Bangkok years later. He called out to me, we went to the Suriwong to catch up. But all of the magic of the relationship was gone. He just went through the motions. I thought he was high, which I had never seen with him. Sigh.

I'm not so interested in the bars anymore, but I love being in Thailand. And thanks to @TotallyOz for keeping this site going.
