In the wake of the recent earthquake, Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports has called a crucial meeting with government officials and private sector leaders to tackle the impact on the country’s tourism industry. The primary focus? Restoring both domestic and international tourist confidence while ensuring the continued safety of visitors.

The meeting, chaired by Minister of Tourism and Sports Sorawong Thienthong, brought together a wide array of stakeholders, including representatives from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Tourist Police, the Association of Thai Travel Agents, the Thai Hotels Association, and various tourism associations.

The main goal was to assess the repercussions of the March 28 earthquake and develop strategies to safeguard Thailand’s reputation as a safe and attractive tourist destination.

A key proposal to emerge from the discussions was adopting a “single command” communication strategy. This initiative aims to streamline and unify messaging across all channels, ensuring that consistent and clear information reaches locals and tourists.

And to STOP changing their policies and requirements so frequently.  It makes it difficult to plan your strategy in Thailand when the ground beneath your feet is shaking like a leaf (no pun intended with the recent earthquake).

You really have to wonder why it has taken years and years and years for anyone to think about this! A unified communication strategy is an utterly vital part of all disaster planning - indeed of all planning. Yet every government department and NGO in Thailand seems to think it has a divine right to communicate its own thinking on any issue. Why, of why, oh why will Thailand continue always to go it alone without bringing in overseas experts for desperately needed advice on policy and planning? It's not rocket science!

One word = PRIDE

I live here now for 2.5 years and anytime I bring up an idea on how to improve things in Thailand it is immediately shot down with the following rebuttals:

1.) The Thai way is always the correct one,

2.) Farang does not understand Thai ways and Thai norms and culture.

And this is hard coded into how us retirees are forebidden from working and even sometimes volunteering.

Our donation (other than our money) is not wanted, appreciated, and via legal legislation is intentionally restricted.

 

The attitude is that you just shut up and stay quiet and live your life the way that Thailand tells you to live your life. If you do not like it, then vote with your feet and get out of the country.

we may not like it but as a host country they have  full right to tell us exactly that. After all in a s sea of colonies they maintained their independence so must be doing something right No foreign monarch ever graced face of their currency or postal stamps

I agree.

I was just trying to share with @PeterRS my opinion about why Thailand does not want any outside help.
