May be an image of text that says 'But why dont you want to be part of America? Oh, Canada! It's going to be interesting to see how everything with Canada plays out. Although I know America will come out on top but I'm hoping that Trump gives them a deal they can feel good about 😇

What possible reason is there for the US to piss all over our relationship with Canada and Mexico?

Who could possibly support this new strategy?

Trump tells us he's doing it because he's putting America first and finds no reason to continue to let Canada take money out of the USA for no good reason. When you think about it he was not elected to continue the status quo. He was elected president to shake things up 🤔

I don't think so. I don't think Trump is out to deal a death blow to Canada but I do think he wants a better deal than what America is getting.  It will happen after Justin Trudeau is replaced. That's my opinion anyway.

how many Tesla's have been sold in Canada and what tariffs have been in place

Tesla has experienced significant growth in Canada, with sales increasing from 6,030 units in 2020 to over 48,000 in 2022, making it the third-best-selling luxury automaker in Canada[1][5]. However, Tesla sales dropped sharply by 70% in January 2025 due to price hikes and the loss of federal and provincial EV rebates[3].

Regarding tariffs, there is currently no specific 100% tariff on Tesla vehicles in Canada. However, Canadian politician Chrystia Freeland has proposed a 100% tariff on Teslas as a retaliatory measure against U.S. tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum. This proposal has not yet been enacted[2][8]. Additionally, a general 25% tariff on U.S. imports, including vehicles, is in effect as part of broader trade tensions[4][6].

can Canada win the trade war against the USA

Canada faces significant challenges in "winning" a trade war against the United States due to its smaller economy and heavy reliance on U.S. trade. While Canada's retaliatory tariffs on $155 billion worth of American goods aim to pressure the U.S., economists suggest both nations will suffer economic harm, including higher consumer prices and disrupted supply chains[1][2][3].

Canada's economy, being highly trade-dependent, risks entering a recession if tariffs persist. Estimates suggest up to 100,000 Canadian jobs could be lost, with smaller businesses particularly vulnerable[2]. Conversely, U.S. industries reliant on Canadian imports—such as lumber and auto manufacturing—could face severe disruptions, potentially weakening Trump's political support in affected regions[2][3].

Ultimately, while Canada can inflict targeted economic pain, its ability to "win" depends on whether it can force the U.S. to negotiate or reverse tariffs, which is uncertain given the scale of American economic power[2][3][4].

what does the USA want from Canada to avoid the tariffs

The United States is demanding that Canada take stronger action to combat the smuggling of fentanyl and other drugs into the U.S. as part of its justification for imposing 25% tariffs on most Canadian goods and 10% on energy products. Despite Canada implementing significant measures, including a $1.3 billion border plan and a near-total reduction in fentanyl seizures from Canada, the U.S. administration has deemed these efforts insufficient[3][6][7].
