We had better split this discussion into off fees and tips.

Off Fee

The off fee paid to the bar is the same whether it's short time or long time.

If I remember correctly, last year they wanted between 300 & 400 baht in Pattaya.

Tip (Pattaya)

In recent years, people have been quite happy with 1000 short time, 1500 long time.

I would tend to add a little extra for above average service.

My experience is 11 months out of date. If there's been any inflation in the last year, perhaps other readers can advise.

Of course some will argue you can negotiate a bit less. However if you can afford to fly to Thailand and stay in Boystown, then it only seems fair to at least pay the going rate.

I agree with Z909's numbers for Pattaya. I also agree if you can fly to Thailand and stay in Boyztown, these numbers shouldn't be lowered. It is of so little money to most of us but it means a great deal to the guys you see.

My biggest recommendation is that if you are going to do more than a short time, that you have a discussion with the boy in advance. I'd say, "hey, I really like you. I want you to meet me for lunch tomorrow and spend the day and night with me. I can pay you 2,000 baht. Is that OK with you?"

I think the best thing is to make things known in advance.

I know of one savvy foreigner who says in the bar, "look, I want to take you off tonight. I'll pay you 500 baht for massage only. 1,000 baht for oral or 1500 for everything for short time. It is up to you what you want to do and I'm happy with any of them. Would you like to go off with me or do you have other plans?"

The above puts the entire discussion up front and leaves it to the boy to decide. I ALWAYS ask, "do you want to go with me tonight?" The reason is some boys may not mesh with you and it is better to know this up front. I have never had a problem in Thailand but I did have one boy say no and he said he had a long time customer coming for him in 2 hours. He said, "you can come get me when he leaves?" I said sure.

I agree with that. Last time I was in Pattaya I gave him just that - we met up early afternoon and he left after breakfast the following day. He was actually more like a friend as I'd met him before several times on previous visits. I arranged to meet him alternate days for a week and it worked like a charm. Because it was actually 4 days spread over a week I gave him an extra tip after the final meeting.

Thanx guys, yes i agree too its kinda common sense to best to talk in as much detail whats expected by both partys eh. it was mostly gaining the going rate/etiquette and not to put my foot in it for under tiping and over tiping.

Does anyone know what the prices would be if the off were in Bangkok instead of Pattaya? (off, tip) in today's money?

My experience is that off fees in Bangkok are similar to Pattaya, but most boys will expect a higher tip. After all, their expenses here are a good bit higher than in Pattaya. On the other hand, you can do as Michael suggests and have a 'shopping list' of different prices for different activities. The only problem with that might be getting the boys to understand as not all have even basic English, especially the more recent recruits.

I don't spend much time in Bangkok, so my sample size is low.

A BKK gogo guy who gets 1200~1300 short time, will often be ask for more.

Now is that because the going rate is higher?

Or because they see a higher proportion of fresh tourists & they know asking for more is often rewarded?

Bangkok freelancers seem less demanding & often agree to an offer of 1000 baht short time, without even haggling.

I always negotiate freelance deals up front, but rarely discuss prices the gogo bars. That works just fine in Pattaya, where the going rate is understood & I pay at or above this.

Perhaps I should discuss money up front in BKK gogo bars.

Wow, I have not been to GoGo bars or taken boys off anywhere for over 6 years (while living here in Pattaya). Guess inflation struck there to. The mentioned prices seem fair though.
