This is the note I had hoped to send several days ago. Since I have no choice but to post under my new handle (as explained in another thread in response to a post by @kokopelli 2this will be double checked and may never be posted. But I feel very strongly on this issue and given that there has been a lot of name calling and bad mouthing of posters (one in particular), I will still post it and accept the consequences.

Having left BKK on Saturday and am now in the UK, I had not intended either to read or comment on threads during my absence. However, I could not refrain from doing so a few days ago having heard from another member about the persistent, arrogant and frankly ridiculous comments of @unicorn. Why he continued to talk ad nauseam of a farmer in Japan when he knows at most 1% of the detail of Japanese culture and recent history, words fail me. His posts were pathetic in the extreme when his only concern was to force western views onto a very Japanese situation - and I make no excuse for writing these words - because in his near total ignorance all he did was insult other posters (one in particular) who know not merely the detailed history of the situation re the farmer and have a much more detailed intimate knowledge of both the country and its people. What he hoped to achieve other than gain some sort of cheap childish, cry baby thrill by insulting the intelligence of those posters who have vastly more experience of Japan and its society I totally fail to comprehend.

At one time on this blog in its earlier GayThailand incarnation, there was a poster who went by the name of @Beachlover. He succeeded in making himself one of the most loathed posters of all time by continuously spouting lies and other childish nonsense. I cannot recall if he was permanently banned from this site. He certainly was from at least one other. It is clear that @unicorn’s continuing inane stupidity should have him near to that same fate, for pages ago he reached the limits of civility to other posters similar to those by Beachlover.

My view is perfectly clear. Either he ceases the rubbish he passes off as undisputed facts on this thread and accepts that he is spouting for the most part drivel, or he should be banned. I fully accept that such a comment may make me subject to being banned. That’s perfectly fine by me. My view - which I fully accept may not be that of the Owner, Moderator and other posters - is that @unicorn should just shut up and continue posting on his cartoon thread. After all let’s face the fact that at least he appears to know something about them!

And he can trash my contributions should be so wish. I will not be reading the site again for 10 days until I return to Thailand. So he will just be spouting more hot air about an audience of zero!

Finally I have no control over the font or its size from my phone. If it is over-large, apologies - it is not meant to be. And do please bear in mind it was written a few days ago with only occasional tense corrections prior to posting today, and some of the content is not up to date. Furthermore editing of text in a moderated post is not easy - consequently there may be a word or two missing!

Well, I do accept that you're an admitted liar, since you plainly stated on 2/28/25 that you wouldn't post further on this string. First of all, I have no idea what you could be talking about when you say "undisputed facts," since the only undisputed facts on this string were the links to those I posted: (1) There are tons of examples of similarly stubborn landowners who've also refused to sell or held out for better offers all around the globe, so this is (as a matter of fact),proving that this situation at all unique to Japan, and (2) This farmer received support from only a fringe group of Japanese politicians, and that he certainly did not have the "whole country" behind him as a-447 claimed. The fact that a-447's opinion isn't "undisputed" comes from your own words, when you said "every Japanese will know this farmer is being stubborn - and indeed very un-Japanese."

a-447 has had ample opportunity to provide links to sources which would factually support his opinion, but has not done so (most likely because they don't exist). His only "evidence" to support his statements are his repetitive pompous declarations that only his opinions are valid because of where he grew up, and the age of his country. (That being said, the Wikipedia article indicates that the farmers whose land was purchased to built Narita obtained their land in the late 1940s, during the period of US administration--not hundreds of years ago)

I have been the only poster on this string to provide real facts. The only link a-447 provided was a link to a BBC interview with the hapless farmer. I had already said that I didn't believe the farmer when he stated he didn't regret his decision not to sell, so that link didn't provide any evidence to the contrary. If I tell you that I don't believe the BS that comes out of Trump's mouth, and you provide a link showing him proclaiming that Haitian immigrants eat household pets, or that Ukraine invaded itself, is that supposed to convince me he's being truthful? Well, it looks as though a majority did vote for the Liar-in-Chief, so I guess there are people who will believe anything. In fact, the farmer hinted at his lack of candor when he admitted that the lock-up of the country during the pandemic provided temporary relief. This is analogous to the man who says he likes hitting himself on the head with a hammer because if feels so good when he stops.

And if you really believe this string has an audience of zero, you're just advertising your lack of observational skills. This is one of the most followed strings in this forum, with views in the five-figures.

that's very valid point we often forget about.

It was answer I just recently gave to my friend who was jealously commenting how much  my condo went up in value in all those years I  live here ( bought it cheap on tail end of recession when nobody was buying).

I said " Henry, it's just on paper as I'm not selling and  plan to move from there to cemetery only"
