A gay few days in the islands

Recommended Posts

I want to spend a few days by the beach in a 5 star hotel where there are restaurants and nightlife within walking distance. Does such a place exist in Thailand? Looking at Phuket and Koh Samui, it looks like all the nice hotels are far from anny action. Am I missing something? Not specifically looking for gay venues, as I know that outside of Bangkok and Pattaya they are few and far between, but at least a young, fun, and open minded crowd. I am thinking of the kind of vibes one would get in Boracay, Cartagena, Puerto Vallarta, Seminyak…

Nice beaches are almost everywhere in Phuket and Samui, but the 5 star resort within walking distance to nightlife will be the more limiting factor.

If you can sacrifice walking distance for a 10 minute Grab ride I would recommend Le Meridien Phuket, it has a small private beach, nice rooms and great service. It isn't walking distance to Patong's Bangala Road nightlife because of the hills, but it's not far. There are probably some more 5 star hotels closer to Bangala, but i haven't stayed at any.

Samui has an abundance of very nice hotels and beaches, but more limited for nightlife, there are bars but not clubs like Phuket (that i know of).

Koh Phangan has a lot of nightlife / partying and beaches, but limited on 5 star hotels with more local 3-4 star places.

I was about to suggest Philippines but I see you have been to Boricay already.

Have you looked at Bohol Beach Club in Bohol?

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve stayed there before and it was full of Russian tourists. Wasn’t the most pleasant vacation. But I’ll use google maps to look for other options in that area. 10 minute grab ride would be fine, considering there don’t appear to be many options that meet all of the criteria 🫠

Yes, Bohol is beautiful so that’s a great suggestion. I went quite some time ago. Have you been recently? If so, what was the vibe in the area around the hotel like?

Hotel indigo phuket patong

Thanks for the suggestion. I hadn’t heard about that one. 4.7 / 5 stars on Google Reviews with 1,475 reviews so it looks like a pretty solid property.

Indigo Phuket is good and I enjoyed stay there but it is not a beach front property.  Amari Phuket is on the beach front and has beautiful rooms with balconies looking straight out to sea.  I walk into Patong and back every day and in the evening walk in again but catch a Tuktuk to get back late at night.

What was wrong with Russian tourists ? They may not be first to smile at strangers or start conversation  but otherwise from my experience they behave even if they mostly stick to their own kin. Personally I prefer them to some overly friendly Westerners who in short 10 minutes baht bus ride  want to know when I'm from , what I do for living and how often I visit Thailand while at the same time telling me where best girls are.

Yes Russians generally mind their own business ⁉️

Some of the problems included being loud and boisterous in restaurants and by the pool, jumping queues, and smoking where smoking is prohibited. There are good and bad people everywhere, but the type of tourist that was at Le Meridien when I stayed there wasn’t the type of tourist I wanted to be around. Maybe I just had bad luck and they were part of a large group. Who knows.

Has anyone stayed at the Hilton in Pattaya? I just looked at a couple videos and the beach and views look nice. I had asked about Andaz Pattaya a while back in a separate thread and was told that it is too far out, but looking at Google Maps the Hilton appears to be more centrally located.

Except when invading and occupying other nations and being proud about it. But that's just a minor point.

We are talking about tourists.

Your point is valid but doesn't seem to  belong to  this thread. ( Somebody sarcastic may mention that there was not much shame or remorse in his country  after George W  invaded Iraq  under false 'weapon of mass destruction "  pretext )

One place I avoid is Bali ,too many 🦘🦘🤪🤪🤪🇦🇺🕺

Bali gets a lot of hate because of them and because of all of the digital nomads, but there are still lots of cute Indonesians and Asian travelers!

Yeah I've stayed there, the jacuzzi suite was great for me, overlooking the ocean and nice sized room. I didn't use many of the amenities in the hotel but the service was good and no problem with guests.

It seemed to have mostly Japanese golfer guests and some older chinese tour groups when i last stayed, i remember seeing minivans loading up with their golf clubs of a morning.

That's just everywhere in Phuket now, same with Vietnam. It's the destinations for those migrating from the situation in their country and holiday makers getting warmer weather. The music playing through portable speakers and heavy drinking around the common areas can be annoying at some hotels, but the more expensive western brand hotels have less of it in my experience.

Thanks for the info! Is the beach clean and swimmable there? I have been told that some areas of beach in Pattaya aren’t very clean. How did you find the area around the Hilton?

No, don't swim at the Pattaya main beach. they pump waste water into the ocean just north of the beach so it's been known to cause rashes and sickness.

Further south at Jomtien is a safer bet for swimming, but the main beach has lots of sunbeds to relax by the ocean.

The area is good, connecting directly with the shopping mall below there's a decent food court and cafe options. The general area is busy with hotels and restaurants, walking distance to Boyztown and Walking Street. If you haven't been to Pattaya it's a good option to explore the central area.
