TotallyOz Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 A good friend of mine, Michael, does great work in Bangkok for orphan kids. He and his friends have been working on some efforts for the victims of floods. Please read his message below and watch the Youtube video and help if you can. Dear friends, the flood is all over the news and giving Thailand a hard time. I've become a bit tired of the politics and finger-pointing involved, as my favorite columnist Voranai said: ''Intellectuals fill the sandbags, while buffaloes make the plans" In the future we can expect more and even worse floods thus we've decided to establish a flood response group based on a simple yet powerful idea named: "Wipe the Tide". It is an initiative whereby we foreigners and locals invade Bangkok's major traffic intersections to wipe the windshields of cars. Our first campaign had a stunning impact, with only 9 ppl. (incl.3 camera men) raising over 27,000 Baht in less than two hours!! Check it out: It was great fun and the personal exchange with people from all walks of life was an incredible experience and I wonder how much we can achieve with 10 or 20 times as many people and twice the time!? Thus, we need your help!! If you're interested please read the details for the upcoming "wipe the tide" campaign: http://bangkokvangua.../wipe-the-tide/ and mobilize as many of your friends as possible!! I know it sounds strange but Thai people seem to donate more readily to foreigners wiping their wind shields thus we're looking to mobilize the expat community but we don't exclude Thai, it should be mixed. We need to show Thailand that we care, regardless our color red or yellow, our social status or nationality and that we all get our hands on when Thailand and its people need us. Feel also free to join our community and let's show up in great force for a good purpose! http://www.facebook....209254372476047 Please contact me here on FB, via email: bangkokvanguards@gmail.com or call 085-839218 Thanks for your support Michael http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9ffgg78qls Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I think this is a great project, although with holidays on 30 and 31 (which I guess may be extended if the floods are bad), I expect the traffic volume will be way down. I'd certainly join, but unfortunately will not be here! Quote
