Do’s & Don’ts: Prepping for my 1st trip.

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Okay, so i’ve been prepping for my 1st trip to the DR (coming next month, already have my flight and airbnb), I appreciate all the people i’ve been messaging with, yall have made planning this way easier, but..

I still have a few questions.

So, I’m a masculine leaning bottom who doesn’t come off as gay (or a bottom) at first glance. How do I signify to men in Zona Colonial that I want them to fuck me? Do the same cruising laws apply of (staring and eye contact?) Does the hanky code work over there? Should I just approach people? some people have recommended cruising at the parks at night, while others have advised against it

Also, i’ve got mixed answers on the crime in the DR… I wanted to bring a camera to capture the culture (not the men), but some people advised me against it and others have said i’ll be fine. I’m not the type to flash my possessions around, I just want to capture this beautiful Country, but i was told to only use my cell phone camera.

What has been y’all’s experience with robbery/safety in the city? Would I be putting myself in danger carrying around a camera?

Last question, is it best to convert USD to Dominican Peso or pay for everything with USD?

Any insight from experience is greatly appreciated & welcomed.

Happy New Year to everyone

It's been a while since I visited the DR, so I can only address your fifth question: convert a certain amount of money prior to going to your Airbnb if you can.  That way it'll be easy for you as well as the men who visit you.

Remember to have your valuables out of sight and locked up if possible.  Just a major precaution, for you do NOT know your visitors.  If you use Manny's services, he'll send guys you can trust, but still have cell phone and other tech devices well stored.

Have a great trip, and remember always to use "your BIG head" vs your SMALLER one!  Advice given to us at this site as well as at https://Companyofmen.com

Please REPORT BACK here upon your return; I'm sure it'll help any future newbies.

For sure, thanks for replying. I’ll be in the country for a while, so i’ll be sure to convert a decent amount.

Be careful when changing money at the airport. Banreservas offers a good bank rate - look for it otherwise the right of immigration. I believe there is another in luggage claim. Others give a terrible rate - if you're changing a lot it adds up. Also, just outside the Colonial zone - BEHIND independence park where Avenida Independcia starts there is a Texaco Station and next to it a little bar like place. Go up to the bars - they change money at a good rate. I have used them for a decade. Also, if you use a credit card for anything select pesos- that way your credit card makes the exchange and not a rip off service agency. By the way, Uber Eats works great - sometimes you and your friend want top share a snack.

Good reminder to all that it's best to always pay in Dominican pesos. My credit union does not charge me a fee when using my ATM card. One extra reason why I bank with a credit union.

Found a money exchange place on C. El Conde that supposedly has the best rate in the city (or matches other stores). I’ll check out your suggestion too though. Thanks.

And, If I may - where is the one in the Conde? There is an old one on Arz Nouel that I used for year just up From the American Restaurant so not far from Duarte. Yours, please

For anybody changing money in Santo Domingo go to Frank el Azuano. It’s the only place I’ll exchange since discovering it. His rates are almost always on par with the current exchange. Ill usually go there first thing in the morning, with all my USD in my bumbag or cross body and exchange it there. He also speaks English so there is no issues for tourists. I’ll also link the google map listing below.
