Current air quality problem in Bangkok

I’m sat on Dongtan Beach . It’s now 12:30 pm. With the naked eye I can see Koh Larn vaguely through the mist: smog.(?) whereas when I arrived at 10:00 the mist was much thicker and Koh Larn was lost , I’m not experiencing any breathing difficulties and in fact yesterday I went out at 6:30 for a run without difficulties. Didn’t do that today as I had company !.

The beach is now fairly  busy and my section is filling up. The sea is calm but earlier it was like a millpond. Temperature estimate 28 deg. Pattaya is rammed  and traffic horrendous . Any danger to health is on the roads,

How’s the beach in Pattaya? Is it at all like Puerto Vallarta where guys come around to party and drink on the beach? Or totally different vibe?

Totally different Pantherz

Im on the gay section which is used 90% by retired expats and older guys like myself on holiday from North America and Europe.

years ago quite a few younger Thai boys used to turn up in the afternoon but not now. There are usually even some the odd female infiltrator perhaps assuming they will be safe from male attention. It’s rather sedate with most users reading or chatting together . You can order alcohol but it’s really quite a sedate scene;

Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s a shame that there isn’t something similar to PV available given that Thai guys like to party and are generally fun and easy going. I didn’t find that kind of scene in Phuket either. On another note, beware of the female infiltrators. They are also invading the bars in Bangkok .

Yes, soi 12 and generally after Supertown shuts down (by 2am) and all of us old farangs have been given warm milk and are already at home sleeping and snoring --> the guys vacate the darkened Jomtien Complex, as their bar work has finished, and now they go to party over on Jomtien soi 12 until the sun comes up.

Once sunrise approaches, they scream and try to get back to their rooms to avoid:

bright sunlight

getting dark skin

being seen in such a haggard state, as the more athletic farangs wake up to jog and/or do their gymnastics on the beach.

That’s the trouble. I’d love to go to Soi 12 and see what goes on but at 2 a.m. I’m already full of beer and wouldn’t be able to cope!

Today likely not much happens there as due to local election Pattaya is, dry zone from 18.00 Friday to 18.00 Saturday. I checked both Boyztown where everything is in dark, Paradise massage being only bright spot, and Jomtien Supertown, the same, just darkness only bright spots being few massage places opened. Little passing traffic though.

Went  out with some friends for a meal this evening in Jomtien but as it’s Election Day tomorrow no alcohol.😟☹️

Anyway after they left I went looking and then remembered a home run bar a mile or two away…off the beaten track. So walked there and she was just about close. So I bought 3 large bottles to drink on a bench outside.

Decided it might be difficult to walk back (!) so drank one there and am sitting on my balcony now finishing the others. Job done!!

Always the same on these daft days….just need to find somewhere away from the crowds.

Stay in the D'Varee hotel and you can pop in and out of Jomtien Soi 12 beach area at will over the course of the night.

I know of 2 boys that encouraged their customer//boyfriend to stay in the D'Varee.... of course with the intention of being able to sneak out and join the party once the farang is KO!

Pizza company has now moved to 24 hours (they used to close at 2am) for those who get the munchies after their nam tom (Kratom Tea)

used to

I had heard about the election shutdown whilst on the Dongtan gay beach . I wondered if Jomtien would be exempt as I had not seen any election / like activity . Had a walk down to Supertown but found it not super at all in fact a veritable ghost town. Reverting to plan b I went to the corner 7-11 only to find the booze cabinet locked and an official looking notice attached. Exiting and walking back to my hotel where I considered the situation and moved to plan c - ie calling the boy from the previous evening. No response . At that point if being 10:00 pm Plan d  became operational. Picked up my book by Michael Connolly read a few chapters and went to sleep.

If it's any consolation I did the same minus book but plus dinner at Dicks where by chance I saw our former  member passing by so we had a nice chat catching up with news. At 6 pm drought will cease

The air quality was actually pretty bad when I was there over the last week. One week in Bangkok and I had an almost permanently irritated throat and the pleasure of mild phlegm. Then again, I am rather sensitive.

On the other hand, the cooler weather this time of year, particularly at night, is rather pleasant.
