BANGKOK — Another Chinese father has sought help from Thai police to locate his son, a model who disappeared after traveling to Thailand. This follows the cases of Wang Xing, the Chinese actor, and another father searching for his 21-year-old daughter from Jiangsu province, whom Thai police later rescued from Myanmar. Mr. Y. Haitao came with Thai lawyer Rachaphon Sirisakhon to submit a letter to Police General Kittirat Panpetch, the National Police Chief, on January 16 at the Royal Thai Police Headquarters. Haitao explained that his son arrived in Thailand on December 21, 2024, flying from Beijing to Suvarnabhumi Airport. The last communication with him was on December 29, 2024, when he made a WeChat video call to his mother. During the call, he appeared anxious and distressed, with visible bruising around his eyes, leading his father to suspect physical abuse. The father noted unusual behavior during the video call – his son kept his hands on the table throughout the conversation instead of holding the phone, suggesting someone else might have been holding it. When asked if his son requested help during the call, the father said there were no explicit requests or signals for assistance, believing his son was under surveillance and possibly being held against his will. khaolakguy Posted January 16 Posted January 16 This increase in abductions of Chinese citizens may be a consequence of China's increasing support for the Burmese government, and consequent deteriorating relationships with the rebel forces. The Chinese embassy confirmed that Yang Zeqi, 25, was back home, said Pol Gen Chatchai Pitaneelaboot, inspector-general with the Royal Thai Police Office, who was in Mae Sot district of Tak on Friday. On Friday, Yang’s father had asked national police chief Kittharath Punpetch to speed up efforts to find his son, who was lured to Thailand with the offer of a role in a film. Lawyer Ratchapon Sirisakorn, who set up the meeting between Yang Hai Tao and Thai police, said he received confirmation from the family that their son had been rescued and safely returned to China. The family would send a letter to thank the Chinese embassy and Thai authorities, he said. Police have not disclosed any details about how or where Yang was found. They also have not confirmed speculation that Yang had fallen victim to one of the notorious scam gangs across the border in Myawaddy, as in the case of Chinese actor Wang Xing. The actor was found unharmed, but with his head shaved, after going missing earlier this month in Tak province. Thai police said they believed Wang was a victim of human trafficking. caeron Posted January 19 Posted January 19 If this article is an accurate assessment of China's activities and diplomacy in Myanmar, it strikes me as foolish and ham handed. The Myanmar military has a morale problem. More guns won't fix that. It is not dissimilar to Syria in that. Iran backed the regime, but the soldiers fighting for it didn't. Quote
