Last week, the price of eggs here in NYC was 10.79 dz........ Today, a dozen eggs is almost $13.   So much for Trump bringing prices down.

So, it makes me wonder that if voters were concerned about high egg prices forcing them to shift to Trump who claimed that "I will Fix it",  WHY are they applauding all his authoritarian acts, and ignoring the rising price of eggs ???

The question therefore is "was their driving issue for voting for Trump REALLY the economy".  They seem not to care that his focus is NOT on lowering prices....

As I've maintained all along,  those people that voted Trump that werent diehard MAGA did so BECAUSE they just would NOT vote for an overly qualified BLACK WOMAN,  but wouldnt say so at risk of being labelled RACIST Misogynists.....

So I'll just say it.   The reason people shifted to Trump was because they are Racist Misogynists who couldnt bear giving Kamala their vote.

Granted, it features a Canadian politician going off about Canadian issues, like his distaste for Canadian gun control.  This has absolutely nothing to do with US trade, or stopping fentanyl trafficking to save hundreds of thousands of American lives.  But I learned things I did not know from that video.  Thank you for not trying to make me more stupid.

I'm glad Trudeau and Sheinbaum both had the humility to back Trump away from the edge of the cliff.  This is good news.  And of course, so is the idea that Trump is actually going to do something about fentanyl trafficking, which he let get more and more out of control in Trump 1.0.

 

If Trump is serious, the first thing he should do is fire Tom Homan.  Just on a symbolic level, it makes no sense to start a war against fentanyl by hiring the guy who let fentanyl run loose in the first place.  Homan should apologize to the families of all the people he got killed as he is walking out the door.

Second, I know Trump loves to ignorantly scapegoat others, like Canadians and Mexicans.  And I don't mind him strong arming poor Justin as part of a serious plan to stop fentanyl trafficking.  It's actually great news.  But it 's not at all clear whether this is just a publicity stunt, or a serious plan. Having a "trade war" to stop fentanyl trafficking is not a serious plan, for sure.

I will add a few addendums to my post above.  Part of my point is I would rather spread and discuss facts, as opposed to the lies and ignorance that come out of some Tik Tok videos, or Trump's mouth.

Peter Navarro thankfully said today that this is a drug war, not a trade war.  Is Trump too stupid or dishonest to call it that?  Like it was not at all clear how raising the price of cars for young Trump voters, or getting auto workers who voted for Trump fired, helps us win a "trade war".  It is still not clear how getting auto workers fired helps us fight fentanyl. But at least someone other than Trump is calling it what it is.

On that note, CNBC reported this:

I would have guessed that, and I think most people would.  Why are we picking on Canada to get them to stop committing crimes they don't commit?  And why should US auto workers and consumers pay for non-existent Canadian crimes with their jobs and even more expensive cars?  This is more Trump ignorance and stupidity and bluster.

That CATO report I hyperlinked above and other sources confirm that, even at the Southern border, almost all the smuggling is being done by US citizens.  Even if it is the cartels hiring them.  Because it is harder to stop them.  Little of the fentanyl smuggling is by undocumented immigrants.  So even at the Southern border, it is not clear how getting Mexican cops at the border stops US citizens from getting drugs past the US officials that need to catch them as they re-enter.

CATO, which is conservative, argues that this is stupid Whack-A-Mole that will fail.  And the only way to stop the fentanyl epidemic is by reducing demand.  I'm not 100 % sure I buy that.  But evidence for CATO being right is the last 8 years.

Homan is a failed, stupid man with a loud mouth.  He spent years playing Whack A Mole, and saying dumb shit, and getting young Americans killed.  The problem exploded on Trump's watch.  About 100,000 Americans were dying each year by the time Homan slinked away with no apology.  He was only good at getting Americans killed, like Musk is good at so far. 

Biden's record was not exactly stellar.  But he did reverse the trend, so that in his last year fentanyl deaths were going substantially down.

One of the reasons Biden was reversing the trend is drug treatment paid for by Medicare or Medicaid.  Suggesting maybe CATO is on to something.  Trump and Musk, if he is not fired, will probably go after that.  So like from 2017 to 2020, Homan and Trump will say dumb shit, play Whack A Mole, and irritate our neighbors ineffectively. And probably dismantle things that actually reduce demand so they can cut taxes and regulations for Elon Musk.

I'll repeat my geeky data analysis from another thread.  A month ago Musk had a net six point favorable rating with voters 18-29.  Now it is fifteen points negative, and crashing fast.  Burn, fucker, burn!  How appropriate.  They had no idea.

Meanwhile, Bernie Sanders has a +20 favorable rating among the Zoomer voters, and a slightly higher one among Millennials aged 30-45.  Bernie said maybe the working class noticed how the Democrats don't seem to fight like hell for them anymore.  I think he is right.  Ruben Gallego is Exhibit A in the theory that there is an alterative.  Take your son to the gym and teach him to box. But it may be that it really is that simple.  And Democrats really are that stupid.  Or captured by megadonors and fat cats themselves.  AMLO fought like hell for the working class every day, and was loud about it.  He was culturally moderate, even conservative.  He made a big deal about loving the cops, and hired them.  I don't know that having 10,000 cops at the border will do shit to stop fentanyl.  They are disrupting ladders, not fentanyl.   But it will probably make Claudia look tough, and able to outfox the stupid gringo.

When illegal crossings and fentanyl overdoses went down last year, did anyone notice Biden was President?  I have not read one thing that suggests Trump's drug war will do shit.  Other than to set up ignorant and failed Tom Homan to fail again while more Americans die on his watch, again.  Pulling ladders out of the desert does nothing to stop Americans paid by cartels from legally crossing the border and evading US officials who need to catch them smuggling. 

Meanwhile, Trump will likely gut the Medicaid programs that seem to have been helping drug addicts and disrupting the demand for fentanyl. Which is what right-wing CATO says the solution is:  go after demand, not supply.
