Lagao NYE

Has anyone experienced Lagao on New Year's Eve?  I'm not a big fireworks/celebration person and am thinking about going to Lagoa, my first time.  I've been to SP several times but never got the nerve to go to Lagao and I'm flying out tomorrow.

Thanks, I've realized that while walking back to my airbnb. Practically NOTHING was open...lot more was going on/open in Salvador last year on NYE than here in SP.

True, most SP businesses were closed on NYE.
But, as you probably know, but for those who do not...

SP has a massive New Year's Eve celebration on Avenida Paulista!
Attendance is usually estimated at two million people.

The party starts getting warmed up at 4:30 in the afternoon and lasts until about 4:30 in the morning!

I was there when the "gates" first opened. People were screened entering from every side street. Some were patted down, but, sadly, I was not. 

When I entered at 4:30 (see my photo above), some country singer was starting the 12 hour concert. I'm told some big-name stars were on the program. Jumbotrons and blasting speakers were erected almost the entire three kilometers of Avenida Paulista. Later in the evening a majority of the crowd wears white, not as universally as they do on Copacabana Beach. 

Many strikingly handsome, fit, same-sex couples were in attendance. I did not see any freelance GPs cruising.  My ear plugs (never leave the hotel without them) made the sound tolerable. And it was fun to people-watch for a while before walking back a couple of blocks to my hotel.
