Guest fountainhall Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 The government has issued a ban on internet comments about the parties in the election from 18:00 this evening. BANGKOK, 1 July 2011 (NNT) – Social network and internet users are warned not to violate electoral laws by making comments in favour of or against any political parties online after 18.00 hrs of 2 July 2011 until 4 July 2011 . . . Election Commissioner Prapun Naigowit warned that violators can face prison terms; however, comments encouraging people to go to the polls can still be made. The EC commissioner also cautioned anyone against using usernames or accounts of other people to post political comments during the period. He said the authorities can track origins of such comments. http://thainews.prd.go.th/en/news.php?id=255407010008 Note; Just noticed the ban extends only till midnight on Sunday - but I am unable to change the title of this post! So does that mean the Thai government wants no one to comment about their political process on line? Quote
Rogie Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 I'm confused why discussion of the election should be forbidden. The key wording seems to be (as quoted in a previous post) "internet users are warned not to violate electoral laws by making comments in favour of or against any political parties online after 18.00 hrs of 2 July 2011 until 4 July 2011 . . ." Especially as exit polls have been released and publicised as soon as the voting finished at 3pm, it would seem to me in order to post about the election on this Forum provided we remain neutral in any comments we make.
