Where’s the beef?

Great location, but I’ve never been to this building before—it doesn’t seem very new, does it?

Also, “ninth floor” immediately raised some concerns for me: in case of a fire, evacuation would be challenging—you can’t just run straight outside through the door, the elevators would be out of service, and jumping out of the window isn’t an option.

Are people still allowed to smoke indoors in Thai bars?

it's former Robinson location on the corner of Rama and Silom. Used to be famous for it's " Robinson boys " congregating on the steps and hoping to land a customer for the night or next hour.

as for smoke, unfortunately some bars still allow it, certainly GoodBoys (former Screwboys )allowed it  last time I was there 2 weeks ago and so did Banana Club where one of the smokers was super handsome  young farang who even bothered to smile at me , at the time flanked by two boys , one to the right and another one to the left

My immediate thoughts also re "9th Floor" club. Perhaps someone who visits the new premises can reassure us.......

The old Robinsons building was completely gutted and reopened as Silom Edge only a few years ago as I recall. Although I haven’t been above the fourth floor, it appears to have been constructed to updated building codes. Here a diagram of the 9th floor taken from the company’s website.

I’m unsure exactly where on floor Beef is located. The most import features in case of fire are the two (GREEN) fire exit stairwells. Elevators should not be used in fire conditions.

I was at Beef on Friday night. It is a really fun disco place with a friendly vibe and a lot of cute guys and quite a few beefier guys(maybe 10%). No obvious indication of people looking for transactional sex.

There is a large outside terrace with bar and seating where smoking is allowed. No smoking inside.

It was well populated when we arrived around 10pm but by the time we left at midnight it was RAMMED. It was a real battle through the dance floor to the only exit that I could see.

Yet there were still lines of customers coming in! I was so relieved to have got out through the crowd that I forgot to check for fire exits down from the ninth floor, although there is quite a lot of open space outside Beef, if required.

I will probably go again but on a week night when it may not be AS busy!

Entrance was 400 Baht includes two drinks(good and strong gins and tonics). Payment was made by card rather than cash, but that might just have been the entrance line that we were in.

not to hijack the thread, but i was with some thai friends at dinner 2 years ago and they were talking about one of the Silom Edge public bathrooms being a popular cruising location. I'm not sure if it's still accurate, but might be worth keeping an eye out for guys hanging around if that's your thing and you're in the building.
