Guest fountainhall Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Normally I am not in favour of posting information that has been posted elsewhere. But I did notice one topic on the gaybuttonthai site this morning which, since I have already written today about a related entertainment topic, I thought might be of interest - especially if tied into a more general question about the best entertainment you have ever experienced. I do not mean bars - although I guess somewhere there may have been something really exceptional. I mean more stage entertainment, a pop concert, an open-air spectacular, a son-et-lumiere type event - that sort of thing. What has been your best experience? The question is prompted by a post by lvdkeyes (who I hope will not mind my mentioning it here) about the show titled simply 'O' which has been playing at the Bellagio in Las Vegas for more than 12 years now. ‘O’ is simply the English pronunciation of the French word for water ‘eau’ and the show is understandably based on a water theme. This website of excerpts was posted - http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/en/shows/ ... video.aspx I saw 'O' ten years ago. It completely amazed me. I thought it was the finest 90 minutes of pure entertainment I had ever seen in my life. Since then, I have seen two other Cirque shows - The Beatles 'Love' at The Mirage and 'Ka' at the MGM Grand. Technically, 'Ka' was just jaw-dropping. I have never before or since seen such huge and extraordinary technical effects. Interestingly, all the shows required special theatres to be built and constructed by the casinos, which is why you can never see them anywhere else. And that’s as good a reason as any for making a trip to Las Vegas in my view. There are clips from all 7 of Cirque’s Las Vegas shows on this site – http://promo-www.cirquedusoleil.com/las-vegas/home.html ‘Le Rêve’ at Wynn’s is another must-see show. Directed by Franco Dragone, who was originally with Cirque and directed ‘O’, it is not surprisingly another water-based show. There is a 9-minute You Tube clip of excerpts, but unfortunately it gives you almost no feeling of the scale and spectacle of the show, which I found incredible. How you can have a stage full of water one minute and then turn it into a normal floor the next, I have no idea! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45SW5LdYGZ0 Cirque has toured its normal tent shows around Asia (although no Cirque show can be described as ‘normal’). I saw them in Singapore and Hong Kong, but they have also played Taipei, Shanghai and Tokyo. It also now has a permanent show in one of the casinos in Macao, but friends tell me this is a pale shadow of the Las Vegas shows. So I vote not just for 'O' but for Cirque's Las Vegas shows in general as the finest entertainment I have ever seen. Quote

Guest Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Manchester United v Arsenal. There was a sequence of matches about 6 years ago, when Keane & Viera were still playing. High tempo, high skill & very hard tackling, right to the limit of the rules. The other one was some young Japanese guy walking around totally nude at the sauna in Shinjuku. He had the perfect rear & the rest of him was sweet too.... Quote

I certainly could fill a few books Re soccer games, I agree there have been some fantastic ones - but now I only get to see them on TV . I do recall seeing George Best play for Arsenal towards the end of his career, though - and that was brilliant. I remember seeing a TV interview with Lord Harewood, a cousin of the Queen's I believe, who was simultaneously President of Leeds United Football Club, President of the Football Association and Managing Director of English National Opera. A passionate opera lover, when asked if he'd prefer to see an opera or a football match, he had no hesitation in saying "football', adding a football match can never be replayed whereas you can see virtually the same opera performance many times.
