I had no issues with guys providing the ID. Some of them were concerned that you're going to use their data, but I just stressed that I'm a tourist and I don't need their ID, it's just the rule to enter the building and they would send it. 

I'd be very alarmed if guy doesn't want to show his ID, that's the real red flag.

Haven't been following or updating lately.  I left medellin to Bangkok, then on to Manila, Angeles City (clark international airport) and now rented a scooter with a local (my old filipino BF) and am in Cauayan city Isabella 400 km north of manila.

Just before I left medellin a US xpat I met who has lived there for years and is cautious and not overly promiscuous got drugged and robbed by a Tinder date.  they talked for some time, met publically went back to his condo.  He has no idea how the drug was introduced. He was beat up a bit, phones stolen, local accounts drained.  the CCTV shows the guy was in the condo for 7 hours.

Police are generally not interested in finding the guy.  he is working with local prosecutor (?) to try to get the CCTV tapes released and get the banks to trace the money.  but he reports little progress.

when i was in medellin I rented a 2 bedroom, and have a local stay with me as houseboy and security guard. so there is almost always another man in the apartment when I meet a new hookup.  I always tell them they need ID for the building guard.  I have had problems but it was a young man claiming he is 22 on grindr, showing ID, then screaming he is 15 when he naked and demanding extra money or he will cause a scene.

Something similar happened to me in Mexico City years ago...I called his bluff and stopped a police car...cops took him away (after a tip to the cop) with the guy banging on the window knowing he wasn't getting anything but maybe a beating from the cops because he was super rude and cocky to them....

My personal impression was that Medellin is just a much more scam/fraud prone than any other Colombian city. Even Cali felt much safer from the perspective of meeting guys, and Bogota feels as safe as Europe in terms of the guys you meet (incl from Tinder), not as many struggling guys, more middle class. 

I only been here for 5 weeks so far but I immediately could tell that I enjoyed Medellin's weather and atmosphere, but I was panicking for a reason, it felt dodgy absolutely everywhere you go.

I agree. To me Medellin is nothing but problems/concerns, whereas in Pereira, Cali etc I never had any issues and feel much more comfortable there.

There are lots of tourists in Bogota... And even in Cali so that's a very odd justification. I feel like the dodgy past of that city is still affecting it's present state. There were lots of criminals to start with and with tourists it just changed the direction slightly... Sorry to all Medellin fans, I get the point, but I wouldn't go there for a fuck, despite the amount of the choice of paid guys. 

Regarding the bottoming - here is a tip, 15 ml liquid loperamid daily, it slows down all the processes so it's much easier to take ass shower and clean it and also it temporarily lowers your appetite so you actually don't want to eat as much. I lost 8 kg in this trip so far as a side effect of my daily sex practices:).

I know loperamid pills (cheap in Colombian pharmacies) but I didn’t know you can also buy it as liquid? So you take only part of the recommended loperamid dosis (for diarrhea)?

Interesting. I visited both, Medellin and Bogotá. In my interactions with escorts and businesses in Medellín I never found any issue. In Bogotá, no problems with boys, but twice I was "scammed" by gay bars.

Yes, it's easier to take as you don't need to take it with food. I got my bottle from the US but here in Colombia it's also available as Imodium in liquid form. The min dose 15 ml is perfect as it just mildly slows down the processes.

I've hesitated to tell my one bad story similar to the one shared earlier in this thread.  This happened in Bogota about a year ago. I often look on Grindr for "disponible."  You often find better stuff than on the web.

Saw a guy who wasn't advertising but I still offered compensation.  He declined the offer saying he thought I'm hot.  That should've been the red flag #1.  I used to be... but I'm pushing 50 now. We met, had lunch, drinks after. Knowing what I know now, I would've insisted on seeing the drink prep or had an unopened bottle of beer.  Fortunately he didn't drug it.  But he could have.

We went to a "love motel" where things started to go south.  We played and fooled around a little, but he wasn't all that into it.  Didn't think much of it. He wasn't an escort so he didn't have to be attentive, he was there voluntarily. And as I said, I'm getting up there. Extra pounds, less hair.  As we wrap up, he goes into that same routine described by an earlier post.  He started raising his voice, demanded money... when I raised an eyebrow and realized this was his scam, he started saying he's underage and calling the police... yelling, trying to cause a scene.

I packed my stuff up and headed downstairs.  In the lobby, the door opens inward and is controlled by the love motel.  He blocked the door and wouldn't budge. He continued the yelling while I showed the staff our Grindr chat.  They didn't pick either side they just stood there. So beyond embarrassing.  I gave him a fraction of what he wanted... I really should've just given him more to get him out of my life.  My heart was racing.  It was terrifying thinking of getting police involved.  I did nothing wrong... and I know he wasn't underage.  He was in his mid 20s at least.  Plus he had to show ID when we arrived to get in to the room... but I wasn't thinking about that at the time.

I share this not to frighten but to enlighten.  It's the only bad experience I've ever had like this.  I've met dozens of guys both on M'cos and Grindr in my visits to Medellin and Bogota. The worst is they usually go into that routine after of how they had their wallet stolen or a parent or pet is sick and needs an emergency surgery. But that experience in Bogota scared the hell out of me and still gets me worked up just retelling it.  I've considered attaching a photo of the guy to this post, but have decided against it.  Just be as safe as you can guys.

As for Medellin vs Bogota, I've found a much bigger selection at better rates in Bogota. Makes sense. Much bigger city.  Even though my bad experience happened in Bogota, I've found Medellin to be the shadier of the 2.  I like the city of Medellin more.  But both have their issues ... and perks.

Thanks for telling that story, it's useful for everyone to know this, so we can all spot the red flags and see the signs in the future. I'd still share his photo lol, he is a scammer🤷🏻‍♂️

Again, my request for ID picture before the meeting is there just for that specific reason- I have a proof it's an adult who volunteered to meet for free(I save all chats too). My friend told me a story about another guy demanding money, he deleted the chat before the meeting where they have agreed to fuck for free. 

My unpaid experience here was much better than paid (surprisingly). I didn't tell that story here that one guy got money upfront and spent his whole time in the phone instead of fucking and got the condom on we agreed not to use prior to the meeting. The worst thing was that I really liked that guy and would have spent so much more on him if he only made an effort ...

Totally get that.  And I've had a few of those that did go well.  2 on this past visit actually. But yeah that one experience definitely soured me on freebies.  I just prefer now to keep everything on the clock to avoid that situation ever again.  But it's an ego boost when you "still got it" and when they're genuinely interested. You certainly can tell the difference.  Sucks aging.  Back in my 20s I was always one of the hottest in the club.  Now when I show guys my old pics their jaws drop LOL... ugh!  I'll think about sharing the photo again.  I'd describe him but his description matches about 90% of the population there. 😄

Aaroninatl, I dont want to depress you, but there's a very similar danger with for-pay guys: they demand more money than agreed upon.

And you mentioned a very useful red flag: after agreeing and before the actual meeting, check if he deleted the chat. If he did - ABORT!
