August 9, 201016 yr Tonight was odd. I had several guys from the bars asking for money as they said their bar was closed. I wandered by and sure thing, the bars were closed. Tom Yum was shut closed. Mic My had 4-5 boys, other bars were also slow. The rumor is that there was an imminent raid. So, everyone that was underage, or had no ID, or had Yaba in their system fled fast. The others did not want the hassle. Then, my BF was leaving the Plaza and his bike was stopped and he was pee pee tested ON THE STREET as the cops watched. He said they were doing this to all Thai's leaving through the back entrance of the Plaza close to Soi Yensabi. The rumors were afoot tonight. If anyone hears more, please let us know.

August 9, 201016 yr I exited the Plaza via the back entrance to Soi Yensabi at about 10 pm and there was no hint of any police presence. There was a scary farang in bib ovealls. I think it was about 15-30 minutes after that when I left. The BF came back and told me about the police checking for yaba. I had him drive me by to see (nosy) and they were still there when we left. I am a firm believer in police benevolence. I offered the officer to help him and monitor the boys as he checked their pee. He declined my kind offer. I winked and off I went.

August 10, 201016 yr I spoke to 4 other boys who left the Plaza after 1AM and they were all pee pee tested. So, it seems that the police were set up for quite a while last night.

Personally, I can't pee at all if someone is watching so I don't know how I would ever take a pee test...

August 25, 201016 yr Well I hope they at least offer some privacy... like a towel or stand or something. It's a shame the government doesn't have the budget or initiative to run effective drug education and advertising campaigns... it seems to be purely reliant on enforcement.

Many studies have actually shown that advertising campaigns run by governments are ineffective anyway, and often have the opposite effect, making young people more interested in trying the stuff out! In the USA a study in 2008 published in the American Journal of Public Health, on the effects of the Federal Government's most expensive anti-drug campaign to date(THE NATIONAL YOUTH ANTI-DRUG MEDIA CAMPAIGN), proved that at best the media campaign didn't work and at worst was counterproductive, making young people think everyone else was doing something cool, and they ought to try it. So government funded anti-drug campaigns are not the best answer. What they are now doing in much of the "western" world is having a serious policy debate about whether current (and outmoded), anti-drug policies need throwing out completely and a very bold radical approach needs to be introduced, including looking at de-criminalisation, and ways of taking the supply away from the very rich drug barons and the black market. In many countries the drug barons have friends in very high places, or are the people in very high places themselves - and that's the problem, not the lack of a big budget in Baht thrown at advertising and marketing whizzkids. Money more often than not totally wasted.
