talking of 'do you mind if I date your boyfriend ...'

Featured Replies

On an alternative theme on this topic, how stupid/thick skinned are some visitors to our adopted shores?

My bf works as a cashier/receptionist in a well known gay hotel, and of course part of the job is to be friendly with visitors (but not overly so) and provide good service, which of course results in a happy guest and maximises tips .... and whilst we have a laugh at some of the things that happen a minority of guests don't seem to understand the phrase 'I have a boyfriend!'

One evening last week I dropped in and my bf pointed out a visitor (from Russia, as it happens) who liked him very much, and had made it quite clear. In fact several staff who are friends came over and made similar jokes about how much attention this guy was giving my bf.

To top it all he then went to chat up my bf whilst I was there (despite being told who I was by my bf, and me receiving a whacking great kiss upon my arrival ... yes from my bf before anyone says otherwise 5555).

I kept a discrete distance whilst he try to chat up my bf ... I know what the outcome would be and as I said earlier my bf is just doing his job .... but it did raise the question what was the visitor thinking of? Yet another example of a farang who thinks every boy is a money boy? And there are hundreds of available boys, so why target someone who is not available?

May be he did get the point cos he hasn't been seen hanging around reception since ... but I just thought the whole episode uncouth and uncalled for.

Or am I just being over protective?

You are right that the Russian was out of line. Unfortunately, some guys always want what is not available to them. They see it as a challenge, I guess.

Of course you are being protective. You should be. However, working in a gay hotel in Thailand this is going to be a problem. Many tourists that come here do indeed think that every boy is a money boy or at least available to them.

Part of the problem is that some people find those who are with someone else more attractive than someone that is available. Part is the quest. Part is the feeling of wanting someone who is not after their money (heaven help us) to go with them.

I find that there is one doorman / bellboy at the Marriott that I have adored for 7 years. I flirt with him, tip him, hug him when I arrive and smile constantly. He knows I would take him in a heartbeat but he is with someone else so I never approach the subject of sex. His wife is a lucky lady but I still flirt with him in a very innocent way. I tip him in a very non innocent way. :)

Whatever the man's reasons were, his behavior was way out of line. Sometimes it can be very difficult to know what goes through the minds of people like that.

Certainly part of the job of any hotel staff worker is to be friendly with the guests, but since when does that friendliness mean now he is supposed to date or have sex with the guest?

Your b/f should have told this Russian that he is flattered by the attention but he is not available and not interested.

Then he should have pointed out the go-go bar across the way and said that "All the boys in there are available to everyone"

A Thai will never confront anyone in that way.

If things are going to get out of hand, he will make something up.

Thanks for the feed back guys.

Out of interest the guy turned up AGAIN yesterday and despite my bf telling him he is not interested and has a bf he loves very much, the Russian insisted on chatting up my guy yet again and even asked for a kiss!

My patience is about to run out me thinks!

If you see in Pattaya One News 'Falang arrested for attack on Russian' then you know I lost my patience! ;)

Aren't Russians farang too? Or is this another example of Pattaya prejudice?

So, what will it be? Handbags at ten paces or Smirnovs till you drop? Смирнов

Just me being specific - and I refuse to get involved with anything that ruffles what's left of my hair!

That settles it then, it's The Battle of the Bank Accounts: Dollars vs Roubles!

Now THAT'S prejudice - assuming I'm American!! :p

I hope you don't let that happen. This guy sounds like some kind of a nut to me and your boyfriend seems perfectly capable of handling the situation himself. Obviously your boyfriend has no intention of having anything to do with that guy, so I wouldn't get involved unless your boyfriend asks you to. If you try to intervene, I can see that escalating and then you'll find yourself having to explain things to the police, who probably won't take very kindly to an incident.

I think your boyfriend can handle it just fine.

I hope you don't let that happen.

yes thanks GB but I do realise that - that part of the post was more tongue in cheek - but I'm still somewhat aggrieved by his audacity!

There's only one solution for you, Patexpat: THREESOME!

Yeah, I agree... Sometimes I find it a bit offensive that some farang think every Asian boy in Thailand will go with them for money. I mean, there's little or less harm done in asking, but some farang just assume and imply it's normal to treat them like objects.

Heh... I did the same with this massage therapist (professional). I'm pretty sure he's straight. He knows I like him but he is always very friendly and earnst and always does a very good massage. Last trip when I said it was my last day there... When we'd finished he was standing there waiting as I walked out of the room. He wanted to give me a big hug :D ... I was surprised and thought this was rather nice of him considering he was straight.
