Members Latbear4blk Posted November 29, 2024 Members Posted November 29, 2024 By the way, for those interested in useful tips and not pretentious lectures, do not expect free cabins on Mondays. They were not free back in April, and they are not free now. Junior would not have this offer on as long as 117 continued close on this day. Instead, pay attention to Fridays. I am unsure on whether today the promotion will be on, but soon Point will offer cabinas liberadas on segunda feiras. hornyfrog 1 Quote

Connordrick Posted December 11, 2024 Author Posted December 11, 2024 Yes, it was free cabin day at Point, only on Quarta. I was there this November, at 202 free cabins on a Wednesday, and it was the best day, in my opinion. I'm not usually a big fan of 202, but I still enjoy it as long as I'm in Rio. I'll keep visiting, especially on the free cabin days, where I had such a great time. That Wednesday at Point 202, I had several encounters, but two in particular stand out, and I keep thinking about them. One was with a pretty young guy who I won’t call a "twink," even though he was slim, in his 20s, and had that youthful look. He had a handsome face, a more masculine vibe, and appeared to have more Portuguese roots. The other was a younger guy, more of a twinkling, wearing some of those gold chains. so adorable. I was with both of them twice that day to pick up my leite 😛 . Both experiences were memorable, and they want it to keep going in my hotel but i didnt want that; i just wanted to rest and didnt feel like entering them What can I say? I can’t help it—I’m a sucker for those guys. It just feels right to show them a little extra kindness, especially with those exchange rates To be continued... and 117 on free cabin day was a dream. I think I’ve shared that story somewhere on this forum, or maybe at the other one. But, at least for me, it was amazing. There were so many super hot guys that I didn’t see again, except for that day. I’ll admit, I ate my own words about the free cabin days at both places. floridarob, Xclay, Latbear4blk and 1 other 3 1 Quote
Connordrick Posted Friday at 01:25 PM Author Posted Friday at 01:25 PM Hey everyone, AirBnB advice: I’m planning SP and Rio pre-carnival, but I’m thinking of extending my stay to mid-carnival. I’ve never rented an Airbnb before, so I’m looking for some advice on what to look for to find a good and convenient one. As long as it has a good bathroom and good WiFi, I’m all set. I don’t usually take GPs to my room, so that won’t be a deal-breaker either. Any tips on how to pick a good one? I’m considering Copacabana, Ipanema, and even Botafogo. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Also, since this is a SP/Rio thread, should we start a 2025 one? Quote
floridarob Posted Friday at 07:56 PM Posted Friday at 07:56 PM Reviews are the 1st thing to go for, anything lower than 4.85 makes me read deeper. If I see a window AC in the pictures, I skip that , lol Full size fridge is a must for me, if only for ice storage...black out drapes as well.... If the rules and cxl policy seem too restrictive, is a pass as well.... Xclay and Connordrick 2 Quote
Connordrick Posted Saturday at 07:22 PM Author Posted Saturday at 07:22 PM thanks, @floridarob I've already booked a hotel with free cancellation, but as soon as I find a good Airbnb, I'll go for it. I'm not that picky. Blackout drapes are a must. I agree; I hadn’t thought about that since all the hotels usually have them, but yes, I definitely need pitch-black rooms for sleeping. I'm going on an adventure type of quick trip. I'll spend a week in São Paulo, which is all set, and then a week or a week and a half in Rio. I saw some posts about Carnival somewhere in the forum, and I need to find them again. I'll stay for the first four days of Carnival, because from what I've seen, it gets way too crowded for an old s(lut)oul like me. But I’m sure it will attract a lot of guys from other parts of Brazil, and I’m craving Brazil GP so much. I just saw that post about 117 prices. For some of us, with the strong dollar, it won’t make much difference, but for others, it might. I hope this doesn’t impact attendance. Quote

Yes, right now, at this moment in time, Wednesday happens to be the only free cabin night at Point 202, but in the very recent past (like in the last few years) 202 has had free suite days on days other than Wednesday — Mondays being the most common. Club 117 was still closed on Mondays back then and Junior Barbosa was still the manager and owner back then. This was happening both before and after the pandemic. Here are some still posted flyers from Point 202’s Facebook page showing “free suites on Monday” in 2020 and 2018 (“Segunda-feira” or “segunda” is Monday, and “suites liberdades” means “free suites” in Brazilian Portuguese). But I addressed this very point in my comment upthread: ”Mondays being the most common. Club 117 was still closed on Mondays back then and Junior Barbosa was still the manager and owner back then. This was happening both before and after the pandemic.” 2 decades of going to Rio. I can’t recall Club 117 ever being open on Mondays to the public. That could be the reason free cabin nights at Point 202 changed exclusively from Monday to Wednesday after all these years. Unless you’re privy to the internal business decisions there (maybe you are?), it’s really hard to definitively say that it won’t EVER happen since the free cabin day has been changed, added and subtracted a number of times over the years. Connordrick Posted yesterday at 08:24 PM Author Posted yesterday at 08:24 PM Back when I was in SP and Rio, I used this picture/calendar. I’m very grateful to whoever created it, even though I know it’s not recent. If you are the author I will definitely credit you 👌 Anyway, this is quite accurate. In fact, this is how I managed to visit both 117 and 202. Latbear4blk and Primeone385 1 1 Quote

If the rules and cxl policy seem too restrictive, is a pass as well.... I live and own in Ipanema. My entire building is 24/7 doorman and has a “guests can have no unauthorized guests” policy. A lot of the apartments in the “nicer” buildings in Ipanema, Leblon and the more desirable parts of Copacabana are starting to institute this kind of policy — for safety reasons. There have been some recent (some well publicized, some not very known but to locals) incidents prompting these concerns. The condo boards and management companies are getting stricter with short-term rental policies. I have a rental here I own and no longer rent to guests who plan to bring any “company”. In spite of this development, my rental remains booked at capacity, and there are probably still plenty of other places to short-term rent in and outside of the area that will allow guests to have visitors. floridarob 1 Quote

Rio has always been, in the 25 yrs I've been going , strict with guests...with good reason. The straight scene is more scandalous than what we do, but it comes with its risks/dangers as well. One of the reasons I still like the Altantico hotel... which I think they might be clamping down, because on my last visit, the FD clerk said, we do this for you because you are a long time customer. I didn't think much at the moment, but he might have been referencing a change in guest policy 🤷♂️ Quote

The recent well-publicized unaliving of the straight American male tourist who picked up two female whores in Lapa and with his friend, brought them back to their AirBnBs where one of them OD’d on “Boa Noite Cinderela” happened on my side of Ipanema. But there have been a combination of true tales — both straight AND gay — that are resulting in the clampdowns. Brazil is a very class-conscious country, and these Zona Sul areas in Rio where the sex tourists come to play are also in or around the best, most expensive real estate in the city. The top percent that lives here and runs the city knows it goes on (they even partake in it themselves, in many cases!), but they’re saying, “take it elsewhere. Don’t shit where we eat and sleep.” Local whoremongers go to the love motels or leave it at the saunas / brothels. What we DON’T want is for Rio to become yet another one of those cities that severely restricts or even bans short-term rentals like AirBnB or VRBO. But it’s always the dummies with inconsiderate, careless disregard who screw it up for the rest of us. floridarob 1 Quote

Nice middle floor bar/restaurant and 2 floors of rooms. I kind of like Lagoa more than Rio’s one. It is newer and the rooms are more comfortable than the Rio ones. Also. It may be my impression, but Lagoa tend to have more muscle guys , maybe because SP is bigger Latbear4blk 1 Quote
