Guest thaiworthy Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 This has been an unfortunate turn of events which has made me a little sad. Gaybutton has always proved to be outstanding in his defense of another, and rightly so. He has helped me on more than one occasion; once he responded to my email at 5 a.m. in the morning, having sent it only a few hours before in mid-afternoon, my time. Another time he dashed out in the rain to get a translation for me from a neighbor across the street. The point of whether or not a question is "stupid" is an opinion that we struggle with inside ourselves. I have appreciated Laurence's posts in the past, and I think he is a good man with a kind heart. Whether or not I think the subject of duvet covers, coffee or shoe repair is trivial or stupid is not for me to share. They are all aspects of living in Thailand, which is why we read this forum. Judgement of their importance is irrelevant, especially when we consider the selfless mechanisms at work in GB's pursuit to help other people. He will leave no stone unturned in searching for a solution, no matter how unimportant we may consider the request. Once you have been befriended by GB, your attitude about this forum and its members change. I do believe it is his fervor that pumps life into this forum. If you confront him, you confront the heart of GayThailand.com, its members, and the ultimate goal of learning more about Thailand. "Stupid" is an ugly, ugly word. Parents often forbid children to use it. It incites the worst in us if used against us. I hope in the future we can curb our sensitivities in this regard before things like this get out of hand again.
Gaybutton Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 This has been an unfortunate turn of events which has made me a little sad. No need to be sad. I thank you for your comments. I think it is crystal clear as to what we will and will not tolerate on this board. The person in question chose his actions and the consequences of them for himself. There is nothing more to be said. Now I think the questions about duvet covers have been sufficiently answered, which is what the topic of this thread was supposed to be about. The only direction this thread can go now would be to debate about the actions of one poster or debate about my response to those actions. Since that has nothing to do with duvet covers, it's time to move on. If anyone wishes to continue the debate about the Laurence-Gaybutton dispute, feel free to do so, but on a new thread. This thread is now locked.
