Between April 8 and 18, customers at Freshboy who don't buy drink for themselves must pay 1k off fee to take boy from bar. Those who buy drink pay standard 500 off fee.

turns out to be the same so I'd opt for drink option as it gives more goodies for ones buck - boy AND dink

I guess bar is trying to deter those who just want to off their boy without even going inside bar and buy a drink. So you will not save any money either way. Also similar case for those who off boy to travel elsewhere, so itll be 1k off fee per day instead of just 500.

I find at least this is a better policy than imposing 1k off fee to all regardless.

Last week when I was in BKK I saw this in action a couple of times.

Perhaps they should keep the "take away" section away from us in the audience that can distract us when we are trying to make our selection from the stage.

I propose a separate "take away" window.... of course with its own pricing structure....

Well-spotted implication. 

It's either a sign of booming business or price resistance. It could be both at the same time. Any decision to impose a higher charge is usually backgrounded with with good customer traffic. Perhaps it may have noticed that customers entering the bar sometimes exceed the available seats, and so those left-standing customers simply order a boy and not a drink, and then go off.

Yet it could also signal resistance to the 500 baht price of drinks, where customers choose not to sit down, and instead just order a boy and go off within 2 minutes.

What I observed at Fresh Boys last week was customers coming to the main entry door and requesting one of the staff to get a certain guy to get dressed and come down off of the stage and to leave immediately.  It was as if the customer already knew who/what he wanted as he was able to tell the FB staff immediately who he wanted. 

I was there on 3 different nights and on the first 2 nights (working week days) it was around 80% full, but on the Saturday (weekend) it was completely full and they were having to move already seated customers around to make space for the incoming customers.  What was awkward was when a customer would call down a guy from the stage to have a drink and there was no or very limited space to seat the guy.

He could always sit on the customer's lap. 

They could talk about whatever comes up.

Bar is rather stingy! Management should be happy that bar has so many customers every night!

If I am owner, I will be happy if customers just appear and off guys without buying drink. It means more seats for other customers to come into bar.

I believe that gogobars require boys who do not show up for work, unless it is their pre arranged day off, to have to pay the off fee. Does this mean that a boy who is absent also needs to pay 1000 baht to the bar? 

I wonder if exceptions will be made for when the boy is sick.

Hotmale should be taking advantage of this move to capture some of the traffic. All it needs is creative promotions and advertising; after all, the shows aren't all that different between Fresh Boy and Hotmale.

If Hotmale still cannot/does not capitalise on this, it should be a crime.

But something tells me that Hotmale would rather follow the same 1000 baht pricing. That too, especially if it also applies to boys unable to work on the rare day, should be an aggravated crime!

The guys in Fresh Boys are notably much more masculine than the guys over in Hotmale.

Living here in Jomtien with the Jomtien Complex (aka Supertown) as our main venue for getting guys - which tend to be skinny young twinks as the main course.  So, when I go to Bangkok - I am hungry for more manly guys with some meat on their bones - and Fresh Boys DEFINITELY satisfied my appetite with their wide and very numerous selection.

Not sure about freshboy policy, but BBB pattaya did ask boys to pay 1k off fee daily for not coming to work during the christmas-new year period, back when their regular off fee is still 500. My guess is, since no drinks is bought, boys who dont come to work will have to pay off fee 1k during songkran period. The bar will just assumed the boy who didnt come to work already have customer who booked them in advance.
