reader Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 From CNBC Santos charged with money laundering, fraud, theft Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., was charged by federal prosecutors with an array of crimes, including fraud, theft, money laundering and making false statements. Santos was arrested Wednesday morning and is currently in custody, the Department of Justice said. His arraignment was set for Wednesday afternoon in federal court in Long Island, New York. “This indictment seeks to hold Santos accountable for various alleged fraudulent schemes and brazen misrepresentations,” U.S. Attorney Breon Peace said in a press release. “Taken together, the allegations in this indictment charge Santos with relying on repeated dishonesty and deception to ascend to the halls of Congress and enrich himself,” Peace said. The 13-count indictment alleges Santos spent campaign funds on luxury clothing and car payments, fraudulently received more than $24,000 in unemployment benefits and reported false income and asset data on House disclosure forms. alvnv and Mavica 2 Quote
Members Suckrates Posted May 10, 2023 Author Members Posted May 10, 2023 They got him already. Santos already in Federal custody TODAY after being charged in a 13 count indictment ..... including seven counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, one count of theft of public funds, and two counts of making materially false statements to the House of Representatives. Now, doesnt it make you wonder WHY its taking so long to nab Trump, after all the forward facing evidence, much of it coming directly from Trump. ? Still gives me doubt the DOJ is willing to bring out the big guns with Trump ? It will be the biggest travesty IF he is not charged by Fani and Jack. Mavica and alvnv 1 1 Quote

This also continues the pattern of 2022 and 2023. Despite the fact that Democrats are supposed to be doing poorly at the polls because of immigration, or inflation, or whatever, they actually are winning lots of swing district seats. They also won a special state House election in Pennsylvania allowing them to keep their House majority. Bingo T Dog 1 Quote

Or, they don't vote in special elections and midterms. That may be part of it. There is this theory that Trump always manages to bring out the cultists when he is on the ballot. They aren't particularly concerned about voting. They can't name the Governor of their state. They just want to be part of the cult. And, in their mind, fair is fair. Donald Trump won in 2020. And the Deep State had to get the cops to take hostages and even kill an innocent woman trying to break into Nancy Pelosi's office in order to stop them from letting Trump win. Why shouldn't the cult vote? That may have been true in 2016. Not so much in 2020. Or, you can say Trump did manage to get millions more out to vote for him in 2020. But for every cultist who normally doesn't vote but did for their cult leader in 2020, there was at least one person who voted for Biden because they were horrified by the cultism. And how the cultists trash democracy and like breaking cop bones and stuff. So we'll see in 2024. So far, turnout is low across the board. In this special NY election turnout was 372,473 in 2020, then 271,333 in 2022, and now 169,887 in this special election. Democrat Souzzi won this race with about 30,000 fewer votes than Democrat Zimmerman lost to Santos to in 2022. Santos got 145,824 votes in 2022. Which was actually not that much lower than the 161,907 votes he got in 2020. Whereas the Republican who just lost got only 78,229 votes. So this was certainly not an election that inspired Republicans or Trumpers to vote. It also suggests that some of the issues Republicans have been hammering on in New York - immigration, and crime - have been neutralized. Trump is leading the Do Nothing Effective Party. Other than the cultists, people have to notice that Trump is more interested in creating chaos than he is in creating change about issues people care about. Other than his cult, he's not giving people many reasons to vote. Other than retribution and chaos, of course. Souzzi won in 2020 by about 200,000 votes, which is far and away the most votes anyone has ever won by in that district. in the same year, Biden beat Trump 54/44 in the district, which was the biggest win in this century. Even bigger than Obama's 54/46 victory in 2008. So if 2024 is a high turnout election, Biden and Democrats will do well in these blue states and districts. But whether people will turn out that way in 2024 is a huge IF. Marc in Calif 1 Quote
Members stevenkesslar Posted February 15, 2024 Members Posted February 15, 2024 From CNN: Quote Suozzi staked his campaign on the theory that voters would blame Republicans for two years of incompetence in Congress and the growing extremism of Trump’s rhetoric. He also wielded Republicans’ failure to pass a border bill as a political weapon, lambasting the GOP’s dysfunctionality while criticizing Pilip for waffling on the issue. It's impossible to draw conclusions from one special election. But I think the Republicans are deeply hurting themselves by being the Do Nothing Effective party. They had a chance to pass a bipartisan border bill that gave Republicans a lot of what they have been bitching and moaning about. And which the polls say a significant majority of Americans want. And instead they chose a meaningless impeachment. The script is writing itself for Biden and Trump. Trump may be the craziest fuck in the world. But some people love him because they think thewhole fucking system is broken. And Trump is the kind of crazy fuck who will shoot you on 5th Ave. and dance on your grave. Woo hoo! Biden may be the most demented old fuck in the world. But he gets shit done. And he doesn't scare people. Which one do you think will win? This election suggests people would rather have politicians who are better at doing things than breaking things. Quote

Look on the bright side, perhaps you'll drop a few pounds, plenty of horny men looking for Sex, and maybe Trump will grant you some Grace (he LOVES criminals, you know) and allow you to have a makeup vanity installed in your cell, so you can look pretty for the "boys" ? If Trump could do it, surely she can, too. I think Bruce Jenner was on to something. But the fatal mistake is the world didn't really need a transgender Republican in the era of Trump and LGBTQ-bashing. So Santos can learn from Caitlyn's grave mistake. By the time our gal gets out, we will have a Democratic POTUS. And America will be ready for a transgender Democrat, bursting with new personalities and an insanely cutting edge fashion sense, to run for her old seat. Stranger things have happened. Which proves quick convictions ARE possible, and it only PROVES that our govt is guilty of pandering to Trump in delaying all his trials because they had absolutely NO intention of ever CONVICTING him, and were just running our the clock and spending the taxpayers money. It was all and orchestrated PLAN to make Trump President again. And the American people fell for ALL of it, and pulled the trigger for Trump 2.0. Quote

I think that explains it. It is far less sinister or stupid motive than it seems. In fact, it actually is something to be proud about regarding America. That quote is what Steve Bannon told Michael Wolff about Muller going after Trump. It is a perfect quote in my mind. Bannon is a hit man who seems to have a love/hate relationship with Trump, who is an even more gifted hit man than Bannon is. And these people know what they are talking about when they use the term "hit man". If you are not Michael Wolff in disguise, you should be. You sure agree with most of what he writes about Trump. Quote Donald Trump is an actor. His greatest success in life is not in the real estate business but rather as a reality TV show performer. Trump is also, in my opinion, a bit crazy. This is all a fluke circumstance. Trump was not supposed to become president of the United States, so he has been catapulted into essentially a fictional role. Pretty much what you wrote as recently as today. So as Wolff explains in his Act One book on Trump, and in the interview, Mueller was concerned about institutional stability. So he thought it was better to let Trump run out the clock, rather than give him a reason to blow things up by trying to throw his dumb ass in jail. Arguably, Mueller was not wrong. Trump ran out the clock, botched COVID, got lots of Republicans killed by pushing lies about vaccines, and lost to Biden. As if to prove Mueller was right, Trump only acted aggressively to take down democracy when he lost, and it was time to sick the mob on Congress. The far greater act of incompetence in my view was Merrick Garland. After what McConnell did to his SCOTUS nomination, Garland had every reason to want to be a hitman, in my mind. But he seems like he has the soul of a choir boy. So if Bannon is correct that the problem with Mueller was that you should not count on a Marine to be a hit man, why would one expect a choir boy to be a hit man? Garland had FOUR FUCKING YEARS to do what every fucking poll showed most Americans wanted him to do: bring Trump to justice for The Jubilant Patriotic Cop Beating, and let a jury decide. He fucked it up. Like I said, this actually can all be seen as a compliment to America. Most people would say Marines are actually hit men. But if you buy Bannon's logic, he understands that most professional military men and women have actual souls, unlike him and Trump. Trump seems like less of a fluke than he did in 2019, when Wolff wrote his book on Act One. He's back, after winning a plurality of the vote. So now one has to conclude that a big chunk of America actually wants a crazy hit man. And it also raises the question: did we now give Trump exactly what Muller feared? A reason to tear down the institutions and system that did him wrong? Maybe so. That said, the reassuring thing about Wolff's argument is that he thinks Trump is primarily a dumb ass who lacks the ability to plan or reflect. All he wants is attention. So the best hope is we just wait 1,361 days for the nightmare to end, unless Trump kicks the bucket before then. Cheer up. Only 1,361 days to go! Quote
