Like others have advised, you should be tipping them for the opportunity even if they are agreeable to being groped. 

I would also wonder if, these being karaoke type bars rather than gogo bars, there is more resistance to being seen by their mates as the one being groped. Many of them may be straight, and even in such environments, have all sorts of macho hang-ups.

Perhaps the best thing to do is to off the chosen guy anyway and then in the comfort and privacy of your room satisfy your hands. Nothing says that offing must necessarily lead to full blown sex. Naturally, the boy should be compensated with a rate similar to any other off.

I know Pattaya also has host bars, but I feel like they're not the same model as the ones discussed here. Can anyone share about the Pattaya host bars?

Jomtien Complex has about 20 of them one beside other under one roof.

There's Pickety in Boyztown proper , right opposite of BoyzBoyzBoyz beside Castro show bar.

And I believe Euro Boys in Sunee Plaza but there are better Pattaya experts here than  HN* me

One evening last March I walked through Jomtien Complex purely to count the number of bars....there are actually 34!

I have read that a few new ones have since opened.

Where else in Thailand can compare with this number of gay bars?

What can someone expect to happen when going to one of these host bars in Pattaya? Do you choose who sits with you? Do guys come up to you? I have no idea what to expect. Maybe someone can share an anecdote to help me understand better.

sit down in bar of your choice , order the drink and rest assured you won't be sitting alone for long. Either boys will approach you or you spot somebody interesting and you invite him over.

Is JJ Karaoke even still open? I know that the Hot Man karaoke on Soi Pothole / Soi Chaiyapoon has closed down. I think that their site is now a cannabis bar. Are there any new, equivalent venues that have opened-up in Pattaya?

You will be coaxed into a host bar by many boys, you will order a drink and all the boys will disappear!  Happens all the time. However if interested, you can call a boy to sit with you and no problem.  Sometimes boys will sit with you, uninvited, and you can buy them a drink or say "not interested". If a boy does sit with you and you buy him a drink, it is still expected to give him a tip such as 100 Baht.  If you are a regular, and known to have a boys sit with  you,  then they will not forget and will approach you for a drink and conversation.  If interested in a boy, just off him, or make arrangements to see him at a later time/date.

I have an impression that guys there are just to queerbait and chances of going out with a gay customer is very slim but I am curious if there had been any success in "off"-ing someone from there already. By "off",  I meant getting the guy's line/ number and agreeing to meet after work, etc.

Went to Top Man karaoke with the boy I’m with now. We got there about 4am and stayed till about 7:30. The billing is very confusing to me. As I don’t speak Thai and my boyfriend is Cambodian. I know I paid for a bottle of whiskey and my drunk bf had three guys sit with us. One was very cute but I had no say in the selection. 
The bill was 6,500 baht but I only had 6,000 and accepted that.

one boy came back with us and I tipped him 1,000 baht. My bf topped him , I was too hungover to do anything but observe, though the Lao boy did his best to include me.

I felt uncomfortable being in the host club as I’m the oldest one there. I didn’t really know where we were going as I was drinking heavily at the soi 12 beach where all the workers hang out all night.

Sort of like role reversal with my prostitute bf selecting who he wants to have sex with. We went to Friendly host bar two times during the week. Seemed more reasonable price wise there. But a young Asian woman asked me why I was there. I must have looked out of place. Mostly Asians only there.

If your bf was drunk, maybe he didn’t realize that you weren’t comfortable in those settings. You may want to talk with him about how you feel about it when he’s sober.

Whether you’re in Pattaya or Bangkok, there are many options to choose from. Since you’re the one who’s paying, you should have the final say on where you spend it.

I frequently find myself among the oldest patrons in bars in Bangkok. In most cases I find the locals concerned only with enjoying themselves and welcoming of others. I wouldn’t give any credence to the crude one you came across. Enjoy yourself!

No he wouldn’t, I don’t like it. My boyfriend dragged me there. He loves picking out boys and drinking. I didn’t know the bill was adding up so fast. A total waste of money. I’ve heard that karaoke is a rip off.

Whiskey accounts for the rest, although sounds like you were on the JWR and not 285

assume that if you didn't go home till 7.30 am, the boy was finished work and there was no need to pay an off fee

I was quite drunk when we arrived. The boy that left with us was off work. I guess my bf just asked him to come with us. My bf didn’t ask me. I would have insisted on a twink but he likes muscle guys.

In most bars the bar gets 150 and the boy 100 from the 250b boy drink. If you have a bottle of whiskey open already, then there is no actual boy drink and they just drink from your whiskey and its is 150b pure profit for the bar.

If the boy is popular, then you may have to buy more than 1 drink for them to join your table for the hour. Often a bidding war erupts and boys can go for up to 20 drinks (5000b) if a wealthy customer decides they wont be usurped by a rival bidder!
