Do gay Thai guys like Academy Fantasia?

Hopefully, someone who lives in Thailand with a younger Thai bf can tell me if their guy (and maybe you, wink wink) watches this tv show.

I am interested because on December 14th at Safari World an all day concert is being held called Krungsri AF Funtasia. I guess they have done this for several years. Last year it was at Dream World. It is a long day concert from 11-6 and I really need to know if most gay Thai boys love this show or not to see if its worth going.

For those that don't know Academy Fantasia (True Academy Fantasia actually) is a reality TV show that kind of melds American Idol and Big Brother together. I realize this would be a painful day for some.....but I'm not one of those especially if it's exciting to the person i'm with.....

Anyway, I just want to know the level of interest in Academy Fantasia by most gay Thai boys.

The impression I have is that whilst girls adore the AF shows, most Thai gays don't care much about it. Strange, because a lot of the contestants - and some of the winners - are gay - and cute!

Most gay boys I know like it but don't rave over it like most girls. The winners are usually gay...although I am not sure about Aof(AF2?)...but he is one of the few winners with a good voice. Boy(AF3) is dead sexy and is an ex-go-go bar participant. Nat(AF4?) seems as gay as a clockwork orange. I very much doubt that a girl would ever win the contest and they seem to be included to placate the sponsors...some of the girls really had talent also. It seems that singing quality is not that important if you are a cute boy...Aof was the exception in my opinion.

There have been some great CDs created from live concerts...notably Battle Of Dreams starring AF2 contestants. One of the numbers at the end of the CD 1 of 3 is really exciting when the accompanying dancers are stripped to the waist in Swensens pants and spend several moments pumping their croins at each other. Not sure how that one got passed for family entertainment...but it's great for adults! Wish I could find those dancers.

There was also a screen shot captured from the 24-hour coverage of cute little Music with an erection....covered by shorts, but clearly an erection.

Unfortunately the thrill has largely gone as the format never changes.

Before AF4, Nat was a regular with a gay crown at a disco in Thonglor. He's probably the most 'intelligent' of the AG bunch having a degree from Harvard (or was it Yale? - one of them anyway). Totally agree that Music is wonderfuly cute. Would love to see that image with the erection :-)

The winners are usually gay...although I am not sure about Aof(AF2?)

 

This post will really turn off non-AF admirers - so you've been warned.

 

Aof is apprently gay. Found an interesting site titled "Bangkok Of The Mind" wth the curious sub-title "Going 'ba' Thai: pretty Thai boys, celebrity gossip, and gay tales from a foreigner and his Thai friends." Here's part of an article about AF4.

 

"The two hot stars of Thai talent contest Academy Fantasia 4 are 'Nat' Sakdatorn and 'Tol' Wantongchai (ต้อล วันธงชัย อินทรวิตร) - not just because of their emerging talent as performers, but because they have developed a relationship which one fan likens to brotherly love, but which everyone hopes will become much more.

 

Tol and Nat (นัท ณัฐ ศักดาทร) are the couple who follow each other around and are so close they are like peas in a pod. They both come from Chiang Mai, which helps explain their affinity for one another..

 

Both boys have become aware of the buzz that there is something gay about their relationship, says one fan, Mee Panda, writing at the Pantip webboard. Mee Panda has written a critique of the first two weeks at Academy Fantasia House, which has been published widely in the 'Tol-Nat' thread at Pantip

 

Panda describes Nat as a serious one who thinks before he speaks. His thoughtful and considerate nature also appealed to another contestant, called 'Bombay', who left the show last week, but while he was still in the race, would vie with Tol for Nat's attention.

 

Tol and Nat sleep next to each other. Bombay would sit on Tol's bed to talk to Nat, and tease Nat by asking if he was booted off the show first, would he think of him on the outside.

 

In the end, Bombay was knocked out first, which Panda says was a shame, as the three-way relationship between the boys would have added much colour to this season's viewing.

 

Close as they are, Panda says the Nat-Tol relationship cannot be likened to other gay-like couplings in previous seasons of AF, such as that between 'Boy' and 'Aof' (บอย-ออฟ) in AF2, who looked seriously gay. She says the Nat-Tol coupling is softer, more like brotherly love.

 

These two have become so close, and their relationship is under so much scrutiny, that they now have their own thread, the Nat and Tol thread, at the Pantip board."
