Thai Airways Taxes on Tickets

Recommended Posts

Looking to book another ticket for my return after the New Year and found some flights. However, all the ones I found are now only economy or business. No Premium at all. The website still says that the economy tickets may be upgraded to Premium if there are no economy seats available but I think that is just an error on the part of Thai Air that they forgot to remove.

Now, the prices for the tickets were slightly over 800 for economy. I thought that was great so I went to book. The taxes were almost 700 US. Still that is not a bad price for a flight to Thailand but when the taxes get to the point of the almost the same as the flight itself I do have to wonder why?

The reason for no premium economy is that they are now using a different airplane type for the US flights, than they used for the non-stop flights. The planes they now use have no premium economy seats, so only economy or business. I had a booked premium economy seat on the Nov 15 flight from LAX to BKK. Now, I have been upgraded to business, and put on the flight that goes from LAX to Osaka to BKK.

In the USA I always recommend contacting Rhonda, at Norcross Travel, for prices before committing to anything. She nearly always manages to come up with prices hundreds of dollars less than anything else you can find.

Now, with software such as Skype and the availability of E-Tickets, she might even be able to help people who are in other countries. It can't hurt to contact her and find out. With Skype ( http://www.skype.com ) you can place a call to toll-free numbers in the USA from anywhere in the world. Just make sure you ask to speak to Rhonda.

The toll-free number is 1-888-888-7157. You may have to drop the '1' before if you are using Skype. I don't remember.

OMG…that is a lot of taxes. I booked my ticket on Cathay Pacific for 900 USD and the taxes were only 311 USD. I think I would not have purchased the ticket if the taxes almost equaled the base price.
