AdamSmith Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 Rare footage does not equal 'only known' footage. Headline: "extremely rare" Subhead: "only known" Text: "We thought at the time that this was the only colour film of the war in Europe. As it turned out, there was some German film that had not yet been discovered," he said. "But it is the greatest body of colour film, and World War II was a black-and-white war. That's how we see it. That's how we saw it. And suddenly to see it in colour, it just took on a whole other dimension." MsGuy: Quote
Members RA1 Posted October 28, 2014 Members Posted October 28, 2014 SO, no comments about "other" film being "colourised" or otherwise "doctored" for our brave new world? A rare film, unique or not, is worth a look. Best regards, RA1 Quote
Members MsGuy Posted October 28, 2014 Members Posted October 28, 2014 Hmm... Please note that the Europe does not equal world. Also note that Stevens was not the only Hollywood film maker who served in WWII. I recall a number of color shots taken in the Pacific. One speculates that the early Kodac color film was a bit delicate compared to the B&W stuff. Maybe it was easier for the Navy and the Air Force to lug the stuff around. At any rate, see this article on color film taken from a Air force bomber. Quote
AdamSmith Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 I give. Apparently this new trove may not be quite the news it was of course hyped to be. See also such things as http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0767026977?pc_redir=1413951199&robot_redir=1 Quote

Members boiworship Posted October 29, 2014 Members Posted October 29, 2014 I once saw color footage taken by an American soldier of the Wehrmacht surrender in Czechoslovakia. I'll search for it on YouTube. AdamSmith 1 Quote
