Members JKane Posted February 22, 2012 Members Posted February 22, 2012 Teenage boys sitting on each other’s laps, exchanging back rubs and dolling out hugs: This was the sight that researcher Mark McCormack found when he went to a British high school to research masculinity. http://www.salon.com/2012/02/22/is_homophobia_disappearing/ Sounds very interesting, still reading. Guest FourAces Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Interesting article. I think in the US it depends on location. The larger metro areas will be more tolerant than say small towns throughout the south. But with more kids coming out more parents have to make a decision whether to accept or reject their gay child ... and that has opened more eyes to the stigma of being gay. After all my child is as normal today as he was yesterday mindset will go a long way in diminishing homophobia. Quote
Guest EXPAT Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I do think it is disappearing EXCEPT in religious organizations. I think evangelistic churches in particular are of the mindset that if you are not like what they project then you are not welcome and that is getting bigger not smaller. But that kind of thinking is what creates hate and homophobia. This is one reason why I am anti-religion. Christianity was not ever meant to be so judgmental. Quote

Every other 1st world country in the world has become more secular in my lifetime. What the fuck is wrong with us? Quote
Members JKane Posted February 22, 2012 Author Members Posted February 22, 2012 Meanwhile, in across the US, a day dedicated to telling gay kids they're wrong/evil/amoral outcasts whom even god doesn't love... Quote
Guest hitoallusa Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 That kid with glasses is cute! Anyways, I think a lot of people are opening up to homosexuality in the US and it will get better. As long as we do right things the community will grow. I have a straight friend who is a devoted Christian. The way he treats his wife and their baby is so admirable and lovely. Sometimes he makes me jealous. I hope we can have something like that in our community too. Quote
