Guest wowpow Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 "Beer Bar Association present letter of complaint to Deputy Mayor concerning Music Licensing. The Beer Bar Association of Pattaya held a meeting at Pattaya City Hall chaired by Khun Ronagit, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya, to discuss problems with music licensing for beer bars. A letter of complaint was handed over to the Deputy Mayor which raised concerns relating to the high cost of music licenses which many bar owners think is excessive and the cost of the license should be relative to the turnover of the business. The Deputy Mayor promised that he would contact the music licensing companies and arrange a further meeting to discuss a possible reduction in license fees." Pattaya City News with photos I wonder why no Boy Beer Bars? There used to be in Patong Beach Phuket a soi or two across from Paradise and one even managed to put on a very good show. Quote
Guest wowpow Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Pattaya Beer Bar Association Meeting Foreign Bar and Restaurant owners are confused and angry about the unclear rules about licenses for background music being played in their venues. There have been representatives from music companies here in Pattaya that go around to inspect and collect money from venues that play music in public such as beer bars, karaoke bars, restaurants and guest houses, claiming it is against the law by violating copyright. Many beer bar vendors had to pay up to 60,000 Baht for a license in order to be able to play music for their customers or else they are taken as violating the law. In most cases they were even taken to the police station and charged. Since there have been so many complaints the Beer Bar Association decided to organize a meeting using City Hall as the location so that all vendors could raise questions and complaints to forward to officials involved at City Hall. In the afternoon of Friday 20th July the meeting was held to gather complaints and then pass the results on to Pattaya City Hall so they will know about the problems. If it is an open air bar, then Patong Beach still has several while Chiang Mai has quite a few as well. IN PB, James Dean, James Dean and Friends, Flying Handbag, SBY, Knuds, One for the Road bar (where CU Tonight with the good show used to be before it moved onto the main soi), and a few others are all open air bars. The ones in CM are near the rock climbing wall and near the night market. Pete Quote
