TotallyOz Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 Does anyone use Garmin GPS in Thailand. I have a device and the cost of the maps for Southeast Asia is 99.00. I am OK with the price if it is detailed in Thailand. Does anyone else use this? How do you like it? Do you find more detailed than Google Navi? Quote
TotallyOz Posted December 26, 2016 Author Posted December 26, 2016 I found this old thread from Gaybutton which was really helpful. I hope the maps for Thailand still work as well as he said they did back 10 years ago. http://www.gaythailand.com/forums/topic/2285-navigating-around-thailand/?hl=garmin DivineMadman 1 Quote
ct2005 Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 At least for me, I predominantly uses Waze as the car GPS navigation. Google Maps should be a popular choice though I never really try it out yet. Waze was bought over by Google. Both should theoretically have the most updated map info. since Google has the resources to update its map regularly. Waze has the added feature of a crowd-sourcing map info. I have tried Garmin GPS a few years back and it has its limitation. I believe that Garmin would suffer the same fate as that of a digital camera vs a smartphone camera. Quote
DivineMadman Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 while we're on the topic of maps - I recently noticed that google maps no longer shows soi twilight (see screen shot below). I wrote a comment note to them about it and perhaps others might be so inclined. Giving them the benefit of the doubt maybe, just maybe, someone somewhere considers it not a true street so they took it off??? However Soi Cowboy is pretty much the same and it is still shown on the map. I am sure it's not a big deal, but I don't see why the street with so many gay--oriented businesses doesn't show up. It makes it that much harder to add/correct business locations on the map. Quote
ct2005 Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Also, Soi Twilight street is blocked or not viewable in Google Street View. Maybe it has to do with not wanting the street to be so easily discoverable ... since it is a gay street. Quote
vinapu Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 I think it's better that way. Otherwise do-gooders may step in and this is last thing businesses there need Quote
bucknaway Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 I think you would make out better with Google Maps and downloading Google Trips for your smartphone. Google has the latest maps and they are improving all the time. Garmin maps can be over a year old or older in area updates. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ign2GmVEflw TotallyOz 1 Quote
ChristianPFC Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 Google maps is free and does a good job. However I found plenty of mistakes and submitted dozens of corrections. DivineMadman 1 Quote
