Totally agree with op, current prices in Soi Twilight are unrealistic. What I do is going to Soi Twilight only for strolling through the soi about once per week, very rarely do I enter a bar (every one or two months). I take my business to Soi 6, Pattaya, Saranrom instead. There might be boys who are worth all the money you have to spend until they are in your bed, but it will be very costly to find out which one. I over the years, I had about fifteen different boys in Soi Twilight, they were ok, but none of them was that great that I would take him again for that money. Then I had the sixteenth in Super A, and he was worth coming back (three times, now he has left Super A). But how much time and money have I spend on the the other 15? Location wise there is not much distance between Soi Twilight and Soi 6, nonetheless in Soi 6 prices are considerable lower, on Pattaya level. There seems to be a reticence among customers to pay these prices (1500 for short time, plus off fee). I hear from several sources that boys complain they don't get offed. Most recent case is my regular from Saranrom, he worked in Hotmale for 7 days I was his only customer (and I only took him from there and paid 400 Baht off fee and 1500 tip because I had told him the week before that we could meet again next week and called him that night to ask where exactly he works - he didn't know the difference between Silom, Soi 4, Surawong and Soi Twilight). Now he is back on the street. Seems 500 Baht every day in Saranrom is better than 1500 Baht once per week in Hotmale. The money (tip to the boy) is not about paying rent or food, it's about driving taxi instead of bus, partying all night, having the latest mobile phone. I get strange looks when I ask boys where they live and which bus line they take to work. Bus? No! Taxi (ok, some of them share taxi). The tip to the boys goes to taxi fares, partying all night, buying the latest mobile phone. The high price for drinks and off fee is to pay off someone who sits at the right position, and gets money for doing nothing. I am not supporting this system any more.

There are 2 Baht coins that are silver coloured and look very similar to 1 Baht coins, just a bit bigger. Even Thais have problems to see the difference, so most silver 2 Baht coins have a "2" written on them with a blue marker. I encountered 25 and 50 Satang only after 3 years of coming to Thailand, when I started living here. The only place with prices in fractions of 1 Baht I know of are foodland supermarket and buses (6.50 Baht fare).

I went at least once, more than a year ago. The last times I came across WWB or GUY, neither of them had enough boys to entice me in (if there are just 5 boys, I can see in a second that none of them is my type, and I leave without ordering a drink). If all boys are now in WWB, that will be over ten, so I will go in and have a drink. My major complaint is that boys are in trousers (just shirtless). I won't pay for that. Have you been to Thailand before? When I came here for the first time (2009), I was on my own, all preparation I had was some reading on the internet. I had no problem to get around and do the standard sightseeing and participate in tourist-oriented gay nightlife. There is nothing intimidating, I would say everything is straightforward. Now I have moved on to explore attractions far off the beaten track and visit gay venues where I am sometimes the only farang. On my first holiday, I met some interesting people (Farang and Thai) at the Malaysia hotel. Unfortunately, that scene has now dried up, as the last sight of a moneyboy outside the Malaysia hotel was months ago. If you have to control your spending, Pattaya is a good place to go as most things are cheaper there. When do you plan to go to Bangkok? Do you intend to use the service of money boys?

For me, long time is staying over night and another round in the morning, in some cases breakfast or lunch together. With hindsight, I should have given less.

But this was your first visit, and I made mistakes on my first visit as well (even on my second, not being ripped off directly as I am tight with money, but other tricks they play with people new to the business). I don't know of any underground artistic gay scene in Bangkok (but then my focus is mainly on hook ups). From your punctuation in the op I think you mean "gay", "artistic" and "underground" are separate items on your list, whereas commentors interprete it as "gay underground scene" and "gay artistic scene"? The person on this board with the broadest knowledge seems to be pond (if you can decipher his cryptic posts), and I would tentatively put myself on second place. I don't think there are many gay Thai boys who have an overview over the entire gay scene. Roughly, I would say there are the following areas: Silom, Saphan Kwai, OTOKO, Ramkhamhaeng and then there are discos, saunas, internet, street trade, toilet cruising, massage; a broad field to cover.

New BTS lines are being built in northwestern Bangkok and in Nonthaburi, I drove past a few completed stations. I expect opening of the lines within a few years. But I don't think BTS plans their lines to farangs' accommodation needs.

How do you draw the conclusion from the tip a money boy asks for to possible drug addictions? These two things have nothing to do with each other. From my limited experience, the chances to get a boy who is a dud are the same for Soi Twilight (expected short time tip 1500 Baht), Pattaya (1000 Baht) or Saranrom (500 Baht).

Had some delays with taxi to and from Sanam Luang area. Going there took 1h15min, usually 45min. Going back the taxi went across the river to avoid difficult areas, resulting in a fare about 100 Baht higher then usual. Part of Ratchadamnoen and other roads north of it were closed for traffic when I went there earlier this week.
