High Speed Internet on Trips to and From Thailand
bkkguy replied to TotallyOz's topic in Gay Thailand
just don't try doing it on the handful of Thai Airways flights that have this available, currently just A330 and A380 flights to Perth, Taipei, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Osaka - they don't charge by the leg, they charge an arm and a leg by the MB and $15 US will get you the Bangkok Post website main page and a few pages from this site before you have to reach for your credit card again bkkguy -
isn't that the old saying - you are only as old as those you feel bkkguy

the curfew was lifted in Pattaya because there where no anti-military protests - perhaps the raid was to check that the boys in the bars where not standing to attention for the wrong reasons? bkkguy

most of the gay tourists I have spoken to here are more like kids in a candy store, and not just when they are in Soi Twilight! bkkguy

Sorry but a tuk tuk driver told me the Grand Palace is closed that weekend - but there is a special government sponsored jewelery sale that weekend and he knows the best place for the best deals, he said he could also be you guide for shopping etc bkkguy

given that Babylon - in one location or another - has been around for significantly longer than Samsuk, and in both locations was/is significantly larger and more popular than Sansuk it is perhaps more accurate to say Samsuk is a smaller version of Babylon and if you want to get away from falung in large white towels most of the "local" saunas in Bangkok have naked nights, underwear nights and other theme nights that mostly lack both falung that need large towels and the towels as well! bkkguy

This is a very simplistic representation of the facts - first of all there were two courts, and according to the first court there was no justification for the move, and according to the second this initial re-assignment was the first in a chain of moves that ultimately resulted in a close family associate of the leader being moved into a senior position of power and influence now we can argue till the cows (or is buffaloes a more appropriate term here?) come home about whether this benefited the family more or the country more, but lets not pretend that this is just about a simple civil service re-assignment! when has Thailand ever been anything remotely approaching a democracy since 1932? so your idea of a workable democracy is where the majority vote for a corrupt party that will not behave democratically when elected? bkkguy

The World's 50 Best Restaurants - Manifesto I have eaten at both of David Thompson’s previous restaurants in Sydney - both received rave reviews for years - and have certainly had better Thai food and a better restaurant "experience" at other Thai restaurants in Sydney, and in Bangkok; nahm in London opened to rave reviews and was I think the first Thai restaurant to score a Michelin star but it has since been taken away; nahm in Bangkok opened to great controversy because of Thompson’s perceived attitude of claiming to know more about "authentic" Thai food than the locals and the menu makes interesting reading from this regard - wagyu beef has obviously been a Thai staple for centuries; but in the end the opinion of San Pelligrino and Diners Club are not sufficient to tempt me to try the place Michelin stars, TripAdvisor reviews, The World's 50 Best Restaurants, etc, are all based on "personal experiences [and] can never be definitive" as Diners Club at least says in their manifesto - so I am interested, what do you find so exciting about nahm's inclusion in the list? what excites you about the menu or the decor or the ambiance etc? what makes a top class restaurant for you? bkkguy

It is I think unfair just to blame the Supreme Court - a succession of presidents, congresses and senates from both sides have conspired with, co-operated with or otherwise been complicit in various agencies trampling on the constitution and the rights of both US citizens and the sovereign rights of other countries and their citizens, and too many of these issues have never been anywhere near the Supreme Court! this is combined with increasing apathy from the general public and an attitude of "I'm not doing anything wrong/I've got nothing to hide, so why should I care" these days all you need to so is use the magic words "terrorism" or "think of the children" and all rights go out the window - not just in the US but increasingly in Australia and the UK as well - there is still perhaps some hope for Europe, and as a falung you never really had any rights in Thailand anyway ... bkkguy

US local, state and federal law and the US Constitution cover many things and government agencies such as Homeland Security, TSA, NSA,CIA, FBI etc hold the law and the constitution in the highest regard and would never even begin to consider doing anything that in any way infringes on legal or constitutional rights of US citizens - just ask Edward Snowden meanwhile I have this bridge I would like to sell you I have a bridge I would like to sell you as well the TSA is security theater at its worst and the abuses by Homeland Security are beyond comment but if you want to stand up to them the you do have to expect to be stopped from traveling, to spend years trying to get off a "no-fly" list and even with support of various civil liberties organizations spend a fortune to defend your rights in the courts - but until more people are willing to so this or until there is greater media and community protest about this the abuse will continue bkkguy

forgive me - given the other posts on this and other threads it appeared that the community opinion here was so shallow that provided the post included naked flesh to drool over regardless of the web site promoting it or why it was posted then it was OK bkkguy

whereas this forum is the appropriate place for new members to spam multiple advertisements for a social networking site? bkkguy

A user having more than one handle is not inherently a problem, it is when a user uses those multiple handles in a disruptive fashion that it becomes a problem, so the rule should relate to the real problem - disruptive behavior - not multiple handles! There are I think some valid cases where a user may want to use more than one handle on this or other forums. for example you own this forum and you post here (and elsewhere) as Scooby and those posts are usually "official" posts relating to the Gay Thailand web site and forum and its operation - but what if you want to express a personal opinion in a post? should you not be allowed to use another handle to do that? I know people in bangkok and pattaya who run gay related businesses who post "official" news under one handle and personal opinions under another, I know Thai people who have different nicknames when dealing with family/home friends, school friends, work friends, bar friends, etc and have multiple handles on facebook, thai gay forums and some even on the general gay forums - not everyone leads one-dimensional lives! most of these people do not cause problems on forums by using these multiple handles for disruptive purposes so block the multi-headed hydra problem posters but not multiple handles bkkguy

On the one hand we have SpermAholic saying: on the other hand we have him saying: and from CFS: and even in his profile here he states his interests are So this self-confessed "cum dump" recently arrived from North America is the person we are supposed to be taking moral guidance from regarding the subtleties of cross-generational and cross-nationality sex in a sexually ambiguous but still mostly conservative culture like Thailand? or who else do you think "hates" to see younger Thai guys with older farung and thinks 1,000 baht "charity" tip for a cup of coffee is reasonable? bkkguy

you can advise people to "view" the age of consent as 18, 50 or the colour blue or anything else you like, but the "view" the police will take is that it is 15 and they will be looking elsewhere in the statute books for laws to press charges under - the prostitution laws the various discussions forums are already full of misleading or factually incorrect information so it is hard enough for someone reading the forums to try to make an informed decision about a "safe age" to have sex in Thailand but personally I think they are much better off understanding the "view" of the police rather than the "view" of someone who does not know what the the law is and finds it too much effort to even begin to make a start on understanding the situation here! OK I can understand the possible physical and medical risks involved with sex, but the moral lesson we are teaching a younger Thai in this scenario escapes me - even in a patronage society like Thailand 1,000 Baht of "charity" for having coffee with an elder seems a bit over the top! unless of course the youth is of voting age or is pledging the fruit of his fields rather than of his loins! but then the elder would be Thai not farung! bkkguy

Mirriam Webster Dictionary: age of consent: the age at which one is legally competent to give consent especially to marriage or to sexual intercourse Collins English Dictionary: age of consent: the age at which a person is considered legally competent to consent to sexual intercourse Oxford English Dictionary: age of consent: the age at which a person’s consent to sexual intercourse is valid in law. I don't have a Thai dictionary to hand but I would be surprised if the definition is that different but perhaps someone can enlighten me then we have Anonone Dictionary: age of consent: in Thailand only, for a non-Thai having sex with a Thai only, 18 even thought the law says 15 words have meaning, that is why we can use them in discussion and understand what the other person is saying, except it seems when talking to you where you want to change the meaning of "age of consent" in this limited context - good luck in getting the major dictionaries to agree with you! The title for this thread is "Question about Thai law" so for the rest of you out there who don't want to rewrite the dictionary the age of consent under Thai law is 15 but the laws you need to know about and understand are the prostitution laws - I really don't understand why this is so difficult for some people to understand. go back and read the SpermAholic text I quoted - he said he did not like seeing "old falung" with young Thais and suggested after a coffee with a Thai twink the falung should just "end your coffee conversation with giving him 1000 baht or so just to be cool if he is a nice boy", so I was just querying why tipping a younger Thai 1,000 Baht for having coffee with you was morally more acceptable than tipping the same Thai for sex - at least in SpermAholic's mind bkkguy

These answers are factually wrong and/or confusing and misleading for people who want to understand their legal situation in Thailand the age of consent laws in Thailand contain no reference to nationality, and the age of consent is 15 - search online for the actual statutes and you will see this is correct foreign nationals are however far more likely to be charged under the anti-prostitution laws - buying a bowl of noodles for someone or offering "taxi fare home" is as likely to be interpreted as offering money for sex as is handing over actual cash all prostitution is illegal in Thailand, search online for the actual statutes and penalties, but in reality the three cases are, regardless of nationality: - where the prostitute is over 18 the law is rarely enforced - where the prostitute is over 15 but under 18 the law is often enforced and penalties are severe - where the prostitute is under 15 the law is often enforced and the penalties are very severe The situation is also confounded by laws from your home country that relate to sex offenses committed overseas - so ignoring the possibility of prosecution under Thai laws the situation for an American, an Australian and an Italian for example engaging in sex with a 17 yo regarding prosecution under home country laws are significantly different The original question was about age of consent and this is a legal issue not a moral issue so it is important to understand the legal issues involved, though usually when I make posts like this I am accused of supporting pedophilia which I don't - I just think it is important to understand the relevant laws and statements like "Age of consent is 18" are just not helpful! so "old men" having coffee with a younger Thai guy for 1000 baht is OK but sex is not? what gets to set what is "morally acceptable" in Thailand? bkkguy

this is one of those deceptively simple questions where the answer seems so obvious, a bit like the "I've got nothing to hide" stance in the privacy debate, but it is just a distraction from the real issues with apologies to Benjamin Franklin, the sham democracy that exists in Thailand is like "two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch" Thailand currently is not, and never has been, anything even close to a democratic society and neither side in the current political conflict has any interest in supporting the political, social, educational and civic reforms needed to move in that direction Reform: Separating political rhetoric from substance They're not just anti-democratic riff-raff bkkguy

for some people living in and visiting Thailand the scene in Thailand consists only of commercial sex massage venues and commercial sex go-go and host bars for some other people living in and visiting Thailand the scene they are used to at home includes saunas and bars where customers go to connect with other customers and they are looking for something similar here sometimes in the forums it is difficult to determine which group innocent "Newbies" in their first post belong to if you are a member of the first group then "Connoisseur" firecat69 has provided an excellent answer with a link to a thread on commercial sex massage places sometimes confusingly referred to as "saunas" if you are a member of the second group then you may be more interested in places like Babylon or Chakran in Bangkok or perhaps even Sansuk in Pattaya and if you are really adventurous there are a plethora of local style saunas in Bangkok that may or may not be worth a visit depending on your physical attributes and what you are looking for - google is your friend as are some of the local listing sites that understand the difference between sex massage and sauna and if you are happy to flit like a butterfly from one group to the other then Thailand is your oyster, you will enjoy many pearls! bkkguy

Ah yes, Phuket News and CBRE - such experts on what condo developers and the BTS in Bangkok need to be doing to meet the demands of the core market - local Thais which lines do you think the BTS should develop to provide "suitable areas for ExPats"? or is that asking you to be opinionated? bkkguy
