As of January 2025, it stood at 57%, the highest since the poll started in 2008. Of note, there's a gap in the data from 2019 to 2025 when the question was not asked. 201020152020202535%40%45%50%55%57% This question was not asked between August 2019 and January 2025 Data: Quinnipiac Poll; Chart: Erin Davis/Axios Visuals The Democratic Party is the most unpopular it's been in polling that dates back to 2008, according to a new survey from Quinnipiac University. Why it matters: Democrats are struggling to repair their image with voters after a bruising 2024 election that put President Trump in the White House and Republicans in control of both houses of Congress. Democratic lawmakers are grappling — and in some cases, experimenting — with how best to respond to Trump's rapid, sweeping changes in the early days of his administration. By the numbers: 57% of registered voters have an unfavorable opinion of the Democratic Party, the highest percentage since Quinnipiac started asking the question in 2008. 45% of voters have an unfavorable opinion of the Republican Party. 43% of voters have a favorable opinion of the Republican Party, the highest since 2008. By contrast, 31% of registered voters have a favorable opinion of the Democratic Party. That's the largest favorability advantage the GOP has had over the Democratic Party since 2008, according to Quinnipiac. Between the lines: Democrats face an uphill climb. A CNN poll conducted by SSRS earlier this month found that 70% of U.S. adults would describe themselves as disappointed with today's politics. The same CNN poll found that 58% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents say that the party needs major changes or to be completely reformed. Reality check: The Republican Party had worse numbers during much of the first year of Trump's first term than what Democrats are seeing now. The percentage of voters with an unfavorable view of the Republican Party hovered around 60% in 2017, with a peak of 67% in August, according to Quinnipiac. Photo: Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images The Kremlin emphasized Tuesday that Russia had not dropped its opposition to peacekeeping forces in Ukraine, contradicting a claim that President Trump made a day earlier. Why it matters: Trump is pushing to reach a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the three-year war. Peacekeeping forces are seen as a key component for any peace settlement between Russia and Ukraine. 8. From chat GPT has Trump made those gestures before the reporter felt as if they were being mocked Donald Trump has claimed that the gestures he made during the 2015 rally, which many interpreted as mocking reporter Serge Kovaleski's disability, were not directed at Kovaleski's condition. He argued that he frequently uses similar gestures to portray someone flustered or groveling, regardless of disability. Videos have surfaced showing Trump making comparable gestures in other contexts, such as when mocking political rivals like Ted Cruz and a general, which his defenders cite as evidence that the gestures were not specific to Kovaleski's disability[2][7]. However, critics argue that his comments referencing Kovaleski's appearance and the timing of his gestures suggest otherwise[1][3].
