Well, it is not ready yet and it will not be started for a few years if ever. However, I did see the concept that I would love to do this week in Rio. A new sauna here called Carcalaclus at 329-331 Mem da Sa in Lapa. Phone: 2232 8966 Some guys from Italy spent a fortune to make this amazing sauna with marble floors, greek statues, open air, roomy, a shower show that would fit 10 guys and a host of other amenities. The place was simply incredible. I have not seen anything done so well in Thailand or any other place I have visited. It is a sauna so there are huge differences in the offerings there than at a gogo bar but the concept would be incredible. Ah, the dream of opening a great gogo bar in Thailand and loosing all my money that I put into it. But, what a fun venture it would be.

Sherman Yellen Fear and Self Loathing in Idaho Posted August 30, 2007 | 10:13 PM (EST) When I was a young man I knew a renowned art historian, born a Jew, whose loathing for his co-religionists knew no boundaries. It was the nineteen fifties and this distinguished and successful man -- whom I do not name out of consideration for his living children -- devoted much of his time to living in a pretend WASP world. The Holocaust and the long history of persecution that Jews had suffered had not opened his heart to his own people, it had caused him to shut off any feeling for them. Through a connection to then President Eisenhower, he even managed to purchase an apartment in an elegant "restricted" Fifth Avenue apartment building. He married his young gentile Smith College graduate assistant, and for all his success, deeply resented that his religion kept him from a place on the board of the Metropolitan Museum of Art which was then off limits to Jews. When a famed Jewish art collector and philanthropist died, and left his remarkable art collection to the state of Israel with the proviso that this "expert" deliver the dedication speech, the art historian kept postponing the trip until he was forced to go by his young wife. As he descended the airplane steps into the Holy Land, he fell forward and dropped dead. He was buried in Israel where he will lie for eternity. A sad, true, and dare I say it, funny story. We all know such people. Their self loathing is often explainable, the effects of a hostile culture upon them in their youth -- explainable but never justifiable, and comically tragic. We have such an example of the high ranking self-loather on the Supreme Court. Justice Clarence Thomas whose rise in the world was aided by progressive jurists establishing anti-segregation laws, was appointed by Bush the elder to smuggle an unacceptable reactionary into the court under cover of his color. This undistinguished jurist, married to a Caucasian, and beholden to the far right, has possibly done more to halt the progress of African Americans than any other sitting Judge. I say possibly only because it is harder to look into the hearts and minds of a Roberts, or Alito, our recent Bush Junior appointees. You need a canary and a miner's lamp to gaze into that noxious heart of darkness and stay alive. And now we have another champion self-loather in Senator Larry Craig. An abusive anti-gay culture has created this misshapen monster of a man - one who fought against the rights of homosexuals in the Senate while allowing his own gay proclivities to express themselves behind toilet doors. It is more than an act of hypocrisy; it is an American tragedy. The self hatred has tragic consequences; not only for the Larry Craigs of the world and their families, but for those he viciously attacked in his "Defense of Marriage" proposals. The fear and loathing in Idaho is truly fear and self-loathing. And with any luck and a lot more compassion there will be less of this in my sons' world and in my grand-daughter's generation.

A 24-year-old man was sentenced to death by the Pattaya Court yesterday for the murder of two Russian women on Jomtien beach in February. Anuchit Lamlert got the maximum punishment after the court decided not to cut his sentence on grounds the defendant confessed only because of the weight of evidence against him. The court said Anuchit's lengthy criminal record showed he had sought to benefit himself through brutal and lawless acts, with no regard for social peace and the country's tourism image. The reading of the verdict was attended by Anuchit's parents and siblings, family members of his victims and representatives of the Russian Consulate. Anuchit, who at first appeared calm, broke into tears and hugged his parents upon hearing his sentence. "Don't worry, everything is justly deserved," he was heard telling them. Tatiana Tsimfer, 30, and Liubov Svirkova, 25, arrived in Thailand with a Russian tour party on February 16 and were shot dead by Anuchit as they sat in deckchairs on a Jomtien beach just before dawn on February 24. Police later arrested Anuchit and seized a 9mm pistol and a red-and-black motorcycle used in the attack. Anuchit confessed to police that he murdered the women after they resisted his attempt to rob them. The Nation PATTAYA http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2007/09/04...al_30047649.php

(Bangkok) A Buddhist temple in central Thailand that serves as a refuge for people dying of AIDS opened a free clinic Friday to dispense anti-retroviral drugs that slow the advance of the disease, the project's organizers said. Since 1992, thousands of Thais in the final stages of AIDS have travelled to Wat Phrabatnampo in Lopburi, 110 kilometres north of Bangkok, to live out their last days. The new project _ the Wat Phrabatnampo-Centre of Hope _ will provide support and treatment to relatively healthy people with AIDS, according to a statement by the temple's Dramaraksa Foundation, the Lopburi provincial government and the California-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation. Anti-retroviral drugs that can inhibit the disease and keep patients alive will be part of the free treatment, the organizers' statement said. At the end of 2005, between 330,000 and 920,000 of Thailand's 65 million population were living with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, according to the latest available figures from the United Nations. ``The number of HIV patients has continued to rise and increase rapidly, and many people are in need of ARV (anti-retroviral) medicines and better treatment and care services,'' Dr. Wichai Thaitaworn, director of the Dramaraksa Foundation, was quoted saying. ``We therefore must expand our services for HIV/AIDS patients and serve their needs more effectively.'' A Thai government health scheme provides virtually free anti-retroviral drugs for most people with AIDS, but the Centre of Hope project will also help cover the cost of other medicines, Wichai said in an interview. The centre is expected to have one doctor, one nurse and one pharmacist, he said. Michael Weinstein, president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, praised Thailand as a leader in the worldwide fight against AIDS, and said he hoped the Lopburi project _ the foundation's first in Thailand _ would be the first of many. ``It is my heartfelt wish that in addition to providing quality ART and care services, these centres also contribute to a greater understanding of HIV/AIDS and help reduce the stigma that many of those living with the disease have encountered,'' he was quoted saying. AHF describes itself as the largest HIV/AIDS healthcare and prevention and education provider in the United States, operating more than 40 free AIDS treatment clinics in the US, Africa, Latin America/Caribbean and Asia. http://365gay.com/Newscon07/08/083107thai.htm

Brazil: Oz and his crazy ramblings around Rio
TotallyOz replied to TotallyOz's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
I'm still having a great time down here in Rio. On Saturday I went to 117 and found a very hot guy that I had seen the day before. If he played his cards right, he would have been my new BF. I had a few friends from NYC in town and they are both Brazilian so we spent the afternoon shopping and then at 117 and then at Corijuniha's. There were a great deal of boys there and it was the same as before. 117 was also packed with hot guys. Today I went to the club for boys Carcallaclus at 329-331 Mem da Sa in Lapa. Phone: 2232 8966. Wow. The place was amazing. The owners put a fortune into the place. It could not have been better decorated. The main salon is huge with a large screen TV playing videos. It can easily turn into a disco at night and I spoke to the owner for a while. A very nice man. The place is spotless. Very clean. The dressing room is nice and safe and the lockers are bigger than the other places. They have over 50 short time rooms, a large salon, steam room, dry heat room, movie room and I don't know what else. The place is huge. It is the best done sauna I have seen in Brazil. The rooms were nice and clean and well-decorated. I really enjoyed the time I spent there. There were boys for every taste. But, it is so large, you may not see them all in one place so you must get off your ass and wander around. The one I choose was a sexy 20 year old who spoke perfect english and said the sauna was close to his school and his home. He was a great short time guy. I then headed to 117. There I met a guy that I hired a few years back. He was the bf of the owner of one of the saunas and was not available. He was a bartender back then and my boy and I had to sneak to get him to our hotel. He met us after work and drove behind us on the cycle. He is now working and I had a programma with him. I then had one with a muscle boy that I had admired a few days ago. The rain has been horrible here and the weather sucks. I did make it to the hippie fair today and my favorite artist was there and I bought 3 of her paintings. He did not have the detail that some of her earlier work did but she said he has a 7 month old daughter and doesn't have the time to spend on the real artwork I have purchased in the past. However, she did remember both Firefcat and Kevin6969. She said to say hi to them. The hippie fair is a must if you are in Rio on a Sunday. My throat is much better now as I have been on antibiotics for 2 days. In my programmas today, I did no kissing as I would not want someone else to get sick. The weather here has sucked since I have been here but the boys are just as hot as ever. It is amazing how sexy the boys are. Still, I have to say, the hottest guys are at Barra Shopping and the gyms. I have been to a few gyms with friends and the really hot guys are all there working hard. The bodies are not accidental, they work for them. The gyms here are full of the hottest men on earth and the mall is the same. I had a great time at Barra Shopping each day I go and Fashion Rio. Well, that pretty much sums up my first week here. I had a great time and know that Rio is still one of the most amazing places on earth. I do need to learn their language and that is something I will work hard on in the coming months. I have already ordered the Rosetta Stone for the language. -
It could be yours. They parade them around in the saunas daily. I took a friend from NYC who has never been to a sauna before with me yesterday. He was utterly shocked. Said he had never seen anything like this in his life. Amazed and happy. Sitting there watching all the guys slide it out from underneath their towel rock hard to let you know they have what you want. It is a fun place.
-
Yes, that was 7 programas with the sauna boys here. Of couse she has a degree. But, I think they have bigger balls. It is a hard trade off.
-
LOL You know I can't even unlock my own safe in Thailand and have to get one of the boys to do it. Do you really think I can open a cell phone with all the detail and get it right? LOL Tell you what, why don't we practice on yours? LOL

I am in Brazil and late last night my throat started hurting. I was fine until I got home late. It was just miserable and when I woke up I could barely speak. I had the hotel get a doctor to come and see me. She was here in 20 min with her bag of goodies. The cost of her service just for an incall was 350 Real. 3 years ago that would have been OK but wow. The dollar sucks and spending 175 US on a visit to is high IMHO. But, it was delivered right to my door. She gave me some cough syrup and told me to relax today. So, I am taking it easy. No boys, no visits, nothing. I would not want anyone else to get sick especially. However, I am sure it was the boy from yesterday as when we finished our programa he was coughing in the shower. He said he has been ill a few days. Thanks for the heads up before I stuck my tongue down his throat.

My Iphone has been used a few times in Brazil. The quality of the sound is excellent. The e-mail and data work great and no issues at all. The cost to roam is 1.99 a minute if you have their World Connect Plan. Data is billed at 2 cents a kilobit or 20 a Meg. You can get SMS messages free but it cost 50 cents to send them out. I hope these prices change and I'll be able to use them more in different places especially the data. They have a plan that covers several countries for a set fee but it is not available yet in Brazil or Thailand. The cost is high but most of the time when you use a phone overseas it is. Skype is still my preferred method of communicating when abroad. It is cheap and easy to use and great quality. I also use Vonage. Anyone else travel with their Iphone have any positive or negative experiences?

by The Associated Press Posted: August 31, 2007 - 5:00 pm ET (Washington) A new HIV-fighting drug from Merck & Co. appears superior to options for patients who have stopped responding to available drugs, federal regulators said Friday. The Food and Drug Administration said Merck's studies of Isentress show the drug is safe and effective to treat HIV patients who have developed a resistance to other medications. Roughly 1 million people in the U.S. are HIV positive, according to the Centers for Disease Control. FDA has cleared 30 different HIV treatments since 1987, and they are typically prescribed in combination to suppress the virus, which cripples the immune system and causes death if not treated. RUTHERFORD COUNTY, NC MAN IMPLICATED IN DOUBLE MURDER- SUICIDE RUTHERFORD COUNTY, NC MAN IMPLICATED IN DOUBLE MURDER- SUICIDE Former head of the Georgia Republican Party, Ralph Gonzalez (39), David Abrami (36) and Robert Drake(30), were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide in Orlando, FL last week. Officials say the three had been dead for several days before their bodies were discovered. Police discovered the crime scene acting on a phone call from North Carolina expressing concern over one of the three men. The call reportedly came from an unidentified female friend of Abrami. The Associated Press reports that Robert Drake, of Rutherford County, NC was the gunman. Newspaper reports describe Drake as a friend of Gonzalez and Abrami. All three men were active in Republican politics. Gonzalez was an influential political consultant, who owned Strategum Group, and managed Congressman Tom Feeny’s 2002 campaign. The house was owned by Gonzalez; Abrami lived with Gonzalez. Newspapers and political websites have been abuzz with posts from friends and associates of Gonzalez, who speculate the motive for the murder-suicide as being a gay love triangle gone wrong. Officials have yet to release details about a possible motive. Another, more sinister motive has been put forth by several sources, including CrimeBlog.us. Reporters there say that Drake was associated with the owner of a gay escort service in the Virginia Beach area. The owners of that escort service are facing charges that they murdered the owner of a rival company catering to the gay community. A source for the Crime Blog reporter states: “My solid, but unconfirmed, sources say that Drake was trying to hit Gonzalez up for cash to raise money to defend a kid (Harlow Cuadra) who is on trial for murder up in Pennsylvania. The 26 year old “kid†ran a gay escort and porn business in Virginia Beach and may have had several Republican clients–Drake being one. (See www.norfolkmaleescorts.com and www.boybatter.com). . . My sources say Drake may have approached Gonzalez for funds for Cuadra’s defense, threatening to blow the lid off everything by MAKING THE REPUBLICAN CLIENT LIST OF THE GAY ESCORT BUSINESS PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE.†http://crimeblog.us/?p=536#more-536 As the Crime Blog reporter rightly says, “we may never know what happened in that houseâ€, but given the recent outings of several prominent gay Republicans (Former RNC National Field Director Dan Gurley, Jeff Gannon, former Rep. Mark Foley, Sen. Larry Craig, National College Republican Chairman Glenn Murphy, etc), a disturbing pattern may be emerging. Sources tell The North Carolina Conservative that Drake volunteered on several Republican campaigns in western North Carolina, and was an associate of Congressman Patrick McHenry. Gonzalez is also believed to have been associated with McHenry in the past. Since being elected, McHenry has attempted to insure that all elected officials in his district are his supporters and cronies. This has caused a very nasty political war of attrition in the 10th District. Sources say that Drake worked on these campaigns as a surrogate of McHenry. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available. -NCC http://www.northcarolinaconservative.com/i...&ucat=& Also, there is an interesting blog at: http://downwithtyranny.blogspot.com/2007/0...pocrite-to.html

It is not over by a long shot but these tiny victories seem to get more and more. Let's hope the Iowa Supreme Court upholds the decision. I know it is unlikely but it is possible. Oz (CNN) -- An Iowa district court ruled Thursday that same-sex couples can marry based on the state constitution's guarantee of equal treatment, court documents show. The ruling was in response to a December 2005 lawsuit brought by six same-sex couples seeking to wed. They were denied marriage licenses and claimed such treatment violates equal-protection and due-process clauses in the Iowa constitution. The court also struck down a state law declaring valid marriages are only between a man and woman. The Iowa District Court for Polk County advances the case to the Iowa Supreme Court which will make a final decision on same-sex marriage, according to Lambda Legal, a gay and lesbian legal organization representing the couples. The 63-page ruling, written by Judge Robert Hanson states: "Couples, such as plaintiffs, who are otherwise qualified to marry one another may not be denied licenses to marry or certificates of marriage or in any other way prevented from entering into a civil marriage pursuant to Iowa Code Chapter 595 by reason of the fact that both persons compromising such a couple are of the same sex." The law describing marriage as between a man and a woman, "constitutes the most intrusive means by the state to regulate marriage. This statute is an absolute prohibition on the ability of gay and lesbian individuals to marry a person of their choosing," Hanson wrote. Lambda says the six couples are all in long-term relationship - one couple has been together for six years, another couple has been together for 17 years. "Three of the couples are raising children, others are planning families, and all want the responsibilities of marriage and the protections only marriage can provide," according to the organization. "We respectfully disagree with the court's decision, and we're going to ask for a stay," said Polk County Attorney John Sarcone. He said his office will examine whether it's best to file a motion to reconsider. But barring a change in the court's opinion, Sarcone will appeal the ruling. Co-counsel for the plaintiffs along with Lambda Legal, Dennis Johnson called the ruling "a significant step forward in recognizing the constitutional rights of all Iowans, and it's an amazing day for same-sex couples and their families all across Iowa." http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/law/08/30/iowa....iage/index.html

Also, the real reason for my trip is that I am 7 pounds away from reaching the 100 pound weight loss goal that I had for myself. I could not think of a better place to get rid of the extra baggage than Rio. The hotel I am at is right on the beach so jogging is great and the pool is excellent. I have been swimming laps every day but it is fucking cold as ice. I am the only one in the pool when I swim. I asked the hotel clerk about the weather and she said this is very unusual for Rio and that they all have the sniffles because of this odd weather. For me, it is perfect: not too hot and not too cold. I may or may not make the 100 pound mark when I am here. I am trying but the food here gets in the way. I don't eat a lot but I do love the ham and cheese sandwiches that I find on the street places near 117. Cheese is so fattening that I know I should pass. They also have those delicious little chocolate balls with chocolate sprinkles. They are devine! If I make my 100 pounds while I am here, I'll celibrate by having 100 boys in 10 days. How is that for a treat? jk At my age, that is not possible without medical help.

Brazil: Oz and his crazy ramblings around Rio
TotallyOz replied to TotallyOz's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
Damm. You have too good a memory. I am going to eat this weekend at Firecat and Kevin6969's favorite restaurant in Rio. Remember the name of that? Ahh. The Land of Smiles. I think the name is accurate. I also saw some great smiles yesterday. The big difference in here and Thailand is that the boys in Rio are much more agressive and know how to play the customer better than the Thai boys. Of couse, that does not stop me from supporting the BF in Thailand for 4 years now. I still consider him a twink but a bad ass twink. He has the smile and the body of a twink but his age is catching up to him. FYI: Marc, he is not 40 either. The guy in my hometown was an anomoly. Well, kinda. My tastes seem to have changed a bit since I have been exercising. I appreciate the muscles on a man much more than I did 8 months ago. -
Brazil: Oz and his crazy ramblings around Rio

Day 3 started out just horrible. I had some faxes and documents I needed printed to be signed and sent back to California. I decided to travel light on this trip and only brought 3 bags and I left my computer and scanner at my friend’s in NYC. I did not think I would need it here. However, I did and when I tried to print in the business center of my hotel we were unable to get the PDF files to print. We tried forever and no luck. I went to the mall in Barra Shopping and went to FINAC and bought a scanner/printer. I took a taxi there and back. It was not cheap. When I got to my room, I plugged in the computer and heard a pop. You guessed it. I plugged it into a 220 volt and the printer was 110. I though all of Brazil was 220. It is NOT. So, I blew the printer up. It did create a nice smell but that was about all to the fizz. I was so frustrated that I asked the lady in charge of Priority members to help. She did and let me print in the office area and their computer guy helped me print. I then faxed back to USA. The cost: 8R a page. I had to fax 28 pages. So, it was not a cheap event to get this done in Brazil. Lesson: Always take a printer/scanner with you on extended stays. Lesson: Always look at the instructions for anything BEFORE you plug things in, esp if you are in a foreign country. Lesson: When jogging on the beach trail, watch out for shit as they apparently do not have laws to make owners clean up the shit here. Lesson: Don’t look at boys playing soccer on the beach unless you want to get approached by one of them. Lesson: Don’t order hotel food that is not priced on the menu. My Club Sandwich and diet coke cost me 68R at the hotel. Lunch with my new friend was fabulous. It was quick and we ate in the mall. I had a good lunch just chatting with him and he said his family really enjoyed meeting me and wants me to come back. He said the boyfriend word and said that is what he hopes to fine. He is not looking for one night flings. Well, it was an almost perfect lunch. Perhaps I need to talk to my therapist about my commitment fears. Is it commitment fears or monogamy fears? I am not sure but I’ll have a great deal to discuss with a therapist one day. I went back to Point 202 to find the boy I was with on the first day. He was not there. I then went to Club 117 to find the boy I once fell in love with. He was not there. I then ended up at Corjinahs. I was there for 2 hours and did not see one single money boy or Gringo looking for them. Is this place still active? Was I just there on a bad night? I did stop by a bar that was about 100 people in the street watching the tele. They had a soccer game on and the cutest guys were all in the street. I tried to step up and blend in. I guess I am not a good blender. My boy for the day was a 28 year old muscle boy from 117. I saw him yesterday and thought he was sexy. I asked if he was versatile and he said no, activo only. About 20 minutes later he said I could fuck him just a little but slow and relaxing and not boom boom boom. I agreed. He was a lot of fun. We actually didn’t get to the fucking part as he was really good with oral and kissing. He has 3-year-old child and I liked the honesty he gave when I asked him questions. He also has a perfect Brazilian ass. Marc Anthony, please don’t expel me from the Twink Club just yet. There was a twink there I liked but did not get to see him. I’ll do better next time. Does anyone know the name of the new sauna something like Caligua? The address is: The Carcalla Club Lapa at 329-331 Mem de Sa, phone is 21/2232-8966.
I was told Pointe 202 was really slow as many of the boys moved to the new sauna. Anyone know anything about this? I had a great run along the beach today. The ocean was beating in the background. The boys were playing soccer on the beach. It was great to jog past all this excitement. -
Brazil: Oz and his crazy ramblings around Rio
TotallyOz replied to TotallyOz's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
Day 2 in Rio was much better than the first and the first one was fun. The rain was pouring hard all day today. It was chilly and cold. That is not something I am really used to down here. My tennis lesson was cancelled and the pool was freezing cold so instead of working out, I went to the mall. Fashion Mall is close to my hotel and that is where I went. I found some nice shirts for the boy I met yesterday and had to buy them for him and I found a few for myself. The guy in the store that waited on me was obviously as gay as I am and I am a stand out queer. We had a fun time chatting and he asked me out to eat with him after work. I agreed to go and was excited all day to meet him at night. After my shopping boredom again set in and I headed for Club 117. Today was the free room day so the place was packed. There were so many guys there that I could not keep count. However, I went to the restroom once and counted over 45 with red towels on (working boys). I have no idea how many had come and gone or were doing a programa. The Club has remodeled and the downstairs part is now a thing of the past. I am not sure if they are bring it back or not but there was no entrance there. I was able to find one of my favorite boys from the past, Jefferson, had moved to Spain. For those of you looking for one of the hottest, sexiest, nicest lads around and are in Barcelona, you must see Jefferson. He is in Attachment 1. He is the smaller guy in the pic. Perhaps, some of your remember a few years back that I fell in love with a boy from here and almost moved here. He did not work at the saunas when I was here the second time and I had to have my hotel call him and come meet me each day. He was special and I just simply adored him. I had tried to call him when I got to Rio but his phone was dead. I did not think I’d ever see him again. As I walked into 117, there he was. I was shocked to see him as I thought he had a job driving a motorcycle. He said it was taken from him at gunpoint last year and has been working again for many months. He hates it there but he needs the money. He spends 2 hours in a bus to get to the sauna. Naturally, I had to see him so we went upstairs. It was great and I had a fabulous time. I guess the love has gone in the years that have passed as he really pissed me off last year when I spent over 1500 US on a ticket for him to Carnival and he was late and never showed so I got Jefferson to call one of his friends to go with us. Needless to say, I never spoke to him again until today. I have forgiven him for his blunder but the feelings have moved on and I was able to have great sex without the attachment I had before. When I was here before, he would always just put on his clothes as he know he would spend the night in my hotel. Today he asked but I told him I had to work. Liar Liar pants on fire! I met the store clerk down in my lobby after his work and my programa. He had a car and he took off. I thought we were going to eat at a restaurant but instead he took me to his home. Well, not just his home but also the home of his family. Here I was with a group of 8 Brazilians. They were middle class and had a nice apartment in Barra. The food was great and he was the interpreter. His younger brother and sister attempted their English skills on me and I felt like the center of attention. He also liked to have his American date with him. Frankly, I would be embarrassed to have any American over to my family’s with all the shit the USA has pulled in this administration but that is a story for another day. The dinner was fun and totally unexpected. He drove me back to my hotel and he came up for a nightcap. We made out for a long time and fooled around. But, he said sex was for another day and wants to see me tomorrow for lunch when he gets his break and I’ll go over and take him to the local café for a bit to eat. He is adorable. He is 28 years old and short and handsome. Since I have not been to a middle class home in Rio it was nice to see one and I had a very nice evening. One thing I did learn today is that as soon as many boys move on from the sauna, there are just as many waiting at the door for an entrance. The place was packed with twinks and muscle for every taste. There were at least 10 that I would love to have been with and Marc Anthony would have been in Heaven today with all the white Brazilian twinks. I was really intrigued by a few and hope they return on another day. The city is really mellow in the rain. No one roaming the streets. No one on the beach. Few at the mall. It seemed like all had gone on holiday until I entered 117. At least I know where all the boys went. -

You were right on that point. One guy recognized me and told all the others. I could see the signs from grande to small and he told the story to all. I had guys approach me telling me I looked great and they remembered me. I had never met them but it was fun to see the commotion. -
The insurgency in southern Thailand is turning into a brutal armed conflict where the majority of victims are civilians, a leading rights group said. Separatists intent on establishing an Islamic state are attacking civilians and schools, Human Rights Watch said. The militants believe up to five more years of violence are needed before they are strong enough to negotiate with the government, the group said. Violence in the region has killed almost 2,500 people since 2004. Over the years there has been periodic unrest in the Muslim-majority provinces of Yala, Narathiwat, Songkhla and Pattani, annexed by Thailand a century ago. But in January 2004, a raid on an army depot marked the start of a new level of insurgency. According to the report, entitled "No One is Safe: Insurgent Attacks on Civilians in Thailand's Southern Border Provinces", militants have been orchestrating a "broad campaign of violence and fear". In the period between January 2004 and July 2007, they carried out more than 3,000 attacks on civilians, the group said, compared to about 500 attacks each on police and military units. In that period, 2,463 people were killed, 89% of whom were civilians, the report said. Monks are also being targeted in a bid by the militants to end what they call a Buddhist Thai occupation, the group said. "Separatist militants are intentionally targeting both Buddhist and Muslim civilians in shootings, bombings and machete attacks," said Brad Adams, Asia director for Human Rights Watch. "Violence against civilians is being used by separatist militants to scare Buddhist Thais away from these provinces, keep ethnic Malay Muslims under control, and discredit the Thai authorities," he said. The report identifies the insurgents as village-based militants called Pattani Freedom Fighters, who have formed a loose network called National Revolution Front-Co-ordinate. Members have told Human Rights Watch representatives that "they are not interested in dialogue with the Thai authorities at present", but that three to five more years of violence are needed before talks can take place. The Thai government has deployed more than 30,000 troops to the region. But they have been accused of rights violations such as extra-judicial killings and arbitrary arrests. Human Rights Watch said it remained unclear what action the government would take "to end state-sanctioned abuses and the culture of impunity in the south". The group called on both the militants and the Thai government to institute concrete measures to protect civilians. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/6966629.stm
