  1. I went to Tawan (One) bar last night. There were only about 4 customers there. Three boys were standing on the stage and a few others were sitting around, mainly glued to their phones. I remember the days when you would walk in and the boys would automatically come up and start fondling you. The purpose of my visit was to meet up with one of the guys who had left such an impression on me last year. Then he appeared and recognized me immediately. So back to the hotel we went. He was meant to be in the show which was due to start in 15 minutes. I told him I would wait for the show, but we decided to leave straightaway anyway. So I didn't get to see the show, but I will stay for it next time. Times are tough for these Tawan guys. No work for 3 months and now they have to put up with low patronage. I hope there will be a bigger crowd at the weekend.
  2. Thanks for the advice. I actually have tea-tree oil at home. I'll try to find some over here. By the way I am feeling better today. So will be planning to go to a bar tonight!
  3. I was given a 2 day supply of a medication called Apracur. Well, it's a good thing I read your post, Londoner, as I thought I would look up the ingredients and noticed that the first on the list was paracetamol, which I had also been taking alongside it.
  4. I agree wholeheartedly. Also coming to Thailand from a cold southern Winter as well as going from the air-conditioning at the hotel into the intense heat outdoors. I got a cold not long after arriving last July, but much worse this year.
  5. Honestly I was fine when I arrived in Bangkok, but now I'm coughing, congested and spluttering. I'm just going to head off to a pharmacy for some medication and hope to come right in a day or two.
  6. Thanks vinapu. Yes, I did notice that you can bypass reception. But to be honest I feel very fluey and lethargic at the moment, so I probably should take it easy and get a couple of early nights and try to recover.
  7. Sadly I have to prove you wrong, vinapu. I have just booked into Silom Heritage for 2 nights. Their rules and regulations state that there is a joiner fee of 900 baht. 😭 I searched gay guides last year and it was recommended as gay friendly, but also that there was a joiner fee. I should have listened to my gut instinct. On principle I will not be taking anyone back there and in a couple of days I will probably check in to Quarter Silom, where there is no problem.
  8. Maybe we have gone off topic, but it's an interesting thread. So may I bring in another angle, please? I'm just wondering about buffet lunches, that is if you haven't already over indulged at a buffet breakfast. I noticed that Ibis Styles had a buffet lunch for 250 baht, which seems very reasonable. So I am just wondering if anyone else has lunch recommendations.
  9. I replied to this thread yesterday, but somehow it didn't go through, so I'll try again. It was bad enough last year discovering that the inimitable Babylon sauna had closed but Tawan was still great, even though in a smaller venue. So I will certainly visit Tawan bar in its new form and hope that it still meets expectations. Another question then. Could someone please recommend a bar where you are likely to find guys who are a bit beefier and where you won't be charged an arm and a leg for entrance and offing. However, I didn't mind those charges at Tawan when I last visited, as I knew what I was likely to encounter there.
  10. Yes I was definitely there then. Later in the month I stayed in On Nut, but sometimes I would catch the train to Silom mainly to have breakfast at Quarter Saladaeng. I think there is a certain ambience in their restaurant too.
  11. PS. I meant the lady who works in the dining room
  12. Hey, I was at Quarter Saladaeng in July last year too. It's always my first port of call in Thailand. And can you believe it, the lady who works on the floor recognized me and gave me a lovely welcome. I've also stayed at Trinity Silom, which is often cheaper than other hotels and is gay friendly, but the breakfast was nothing to write home about.
  13. I don't sleep well, so location is important, but as mentioned, location is nothing if next door is partying up I like Quarter Saladaeng and always have an enormous breakfast there, but if you want to take someone back, the chances are he will want to take a taxi, even though it's within walking distance. Quarter Silom was my choice for offing a Tawan boy because it is within spitting distance. Yes, the walls seem to be paper thin, but I can't complain as I probably contributed to the noise on certain occasions after midnight, though I did try to keep it quiet. Anyway I think I will try Tarntawan. It also seems to be comparatively cheap too. I understand that some gay friendly hotels have a joiner fee.
  14. I am looking for recommendations for bar shows, especially erotic. It seems that Tawan in its new form has gone downhill. I am likely to visit it anyhow at some point, but I would appreciate what other bars are worth visiting. Cheers.
  15. Thanks Reader. I see that they serve meals to the public too, so I will check it out.
  16. Is the Tarntawan hotel fairly quiet at night, please? The menu looks good and the hotel itself seems to be reasonably priced through Agoda.
  17. Please is there any update on Tawan?
  18. Thanks for the advice. If anyone is able to recommend a particular apartment or hotel they have stayed in for a month or more, which is reasonably close to the gay scene but reasonably quiet, I would so appreciate hearing from you. I won't be returning to Thailand for a few months, but there's no harm in being better prepared this time round.
  19. Thanks for that. Yes, it is an easy walk, but I ended up spending a few nights at Quarter Silom as it was a lot closer. I enjoyed both hotels.
  20. During my last stay in Thailand I stayed in over 10 hotels, for one reason or another. I was happy with all of them and managed to get excellent low season rates, but even still, the costs mount up. Could someone please recommend how to go about finding accommodation say on a monthly basis or making suggestions about where to stay in either Bangkok or Pattaya?
  21. Talking apps, could someone please recommend some. I am also familiar with line, but not sure how to use it or how to find contacts on it.
  22. I really loved Quarter Saladaeng. I like the set-up of the dining room and I enjoyed very satisfying buffet breakfasts. In fact when I stayed in a hotel out of town I would sometimes make a trip there for breakfast (200 baht). It is quite a distance from the bars and I can understand that some of the boys would insist on a taxi or motorbike, to save time if nothing else. May I ask if you had to pay at the reception to take a boy back to your room?
  23. I found him to be genuine and caring. In fact all of the guys there seemed amenable. I had had only one previous experience with a Tawan bodybuilder, several years ago, but he seemed to be in it only for the money. I was much more satisfied this time round.
  24. I know where you are coming from, Spoon. However, I think the bar might officially open at 8pm, but not sure. I know there are some guys there beforehand. I wanted to emphasise that he could have accompanied me without informing his boss and therefore he displayed integrity as well as loyalty and honesty. During casual conversation with him and the manager, I got the impression that they could be flexible with their hours. It would be interesting to know that if you arranged for a meet-up with one of the guys, say, at 1pm, whether they would adhere to the same protocol.
