New question: Due to some events you may have read about in the newspaper over the past two years, it’s been a while since I’ve been to Thailand. Aside from the fact that Brazil is a shorter flight and the language is something I could actually possibly maybe have a for real big boy conversation in one day are “activities” with the locals more or less expensive in Brazil than in Thailand?

Huh…? When I am in Brazil, I eat almost all of my meals in restaurants and regularly spend money on “activities” with the fine young gentlemen that I continue to meet there. In America, I do not eat out constantly and my “activities” budget is zero yet - and I am completely serious when I say this - I think vacationing in Brazil is less expensive than living in America. In any case, if you really do think Brazil is expensive, I strongly suggest you avoid NYC, San Francisco, Washington, DC, London, Paris, etc.

Do you think a big part of that has to do with the fact that you are fluent in Spanish? The reason Brazil grew so quickly on me is that the language is something that I can learn whereas Thai was just something that was never going to happen. With each trip to Brazil my Portuguese has improved and with it new opportunities have become available.

I suggest you go seeking a decent massage and see what happens.

Huh….? Other than wearing a mask when entering a building, my recent trips to Brazil were not impacted by COVID.

Thx! I’m actually getting to be pretty good at reading Portuguese (thanks Doulingo) and even better at texting in Portuguese (thanks Grindr). My auditory comprehension needs improvement and my pronunciation still needs a great deal of improvement though. Tips for improving either one from those that have learned the language are very welcome. Quem não joga não ganha.

Are there more threads like this if one is willing to put the time in reading decades old posts? Is there a reason other than COVID that there haven’t been any recent posts like this? I’m asking for a, um, friend that happens to be a visual learner. Palavras are nice but fotos are better.

It feels sort of weird to be using this part of my brain while logged onto this website but my “American rental property math” is really nothing more than that one can typically rent a property at a monthly rate equal to about 1% of the property’s value. In this case, $34 per day equals about $1,000 per month which suggests a property value of about $100,000. I’m not dating him but the smart and very, very attractive Carioca that is currently helping me learn Portuguese - he was outstanding when it came to helping me name the part of the body - was horrified when I mentioned that I would like to split time between here and something small but nice in Leblon. His reaction puzzled me considering that I stayed in/near Leblon two of the three times I’ve been to Brazil and he and I have been out to eat in Leblon frequently. Maybe he just thinks Leblon is overpriced or not someplace he would actually want to live. Or, more likely than not since he speaks pretty decent English but typically converses about transactions that do not involve the sale of real estate and my Portuguese is still very much limited to body parts and what one might do with those body parts, we probably just misunderstand each other which is why I’m going to go back to trying to find trash television in Portuguese to watch in preparation for my next trip on March. Suggestions are welcome if anyone has a show they would like to recommend.

I was planning a trip to Medellin but put it off because I was unsure what the quarantine requirements in mid-2021 were there and went to Brazil instead. I still want to go to Medellin. You see there was this guy I met years ago while on vacation in Miami from Medellin and I am sincerely hoping the rest of the population looks something, anything, like him but I digress…. In any case though, I have fallen hard for Brazil, especially Rio. And, now that I’m getting somewhat close to being able say big-boy sentences in Portuguese, it’s not going to be easy to get me to go somewhere else anytime soon. Between Duolingo and the gay slang I have learned from my new friends in Brazil, I expect my next trip will require significantly less pointing which is a good thing.

I also could not get in contact with MD last time I was in SP. I think they have gone out of business. If anybody knows of any decent massage places in Rio, please share.

If anyone does happen to know, I would be interested to know how women typically go about hiring men in Brazil too. I assume it’s not by badgering their gay friend in America for contact info from his recent trips to Rio.

I am thinking of including Salvador in my upcoming trip to Brazil early next year. Has anyone been there recently?

She has definitely done this before. One of her questions for me about him was, “Will he let me go down on him without a condom on?” Apparently, she obtained the services of a young man somewhere in Jamaica and was very disappointed to learn he wanted to use condoms even for oral (which she did because “he was really hot” but will never do again because “latex tastes gross.”)

Update: I’ve met the absurdly attractive guy in Rio that caused me to start this thread several times now between my two recent trips to Brazil. He is definitely my favorite part of Rio and we have stayed in touch. New Question: Earlier this week while out for drinks with a female friend I relayed this story to her in response to her question about why I went to Brazil twice over a four month period and showed her some PG-13 rated pictures - most of which she could have found on the internet herself anyway - of Absurdly Attractive Rio Guy (AARG) and other guys I met. Today, I learned she and a couple of her girl friends are now planning a trip to Rio and she is pestering me for AARG’s contact info so that she can hire him, ummm, to do things with her that the majority of people reading this post probably think are gross. AARG says he is bisexual but, well, I’m not convinced and I am pretty sure he spends a lot more time naked with other men than he does with women just as I am now very sure that he really doesn’t ever work in the saunas. For what it is worth, my friend is mid-thirties and most people would consider her attractive. She will probable also pay AARG an amount for his time that will horrify the members of this board. Lastly, I have no illusion that AARG is mine or anything like that. He definitely fucks others guys too which doesn’t bother me. I’m leaning towards handling this as I would for somebody that wants one of my business contacts. My plan is to send AARG my friend’s contact info and picture. I will tell him that she is planning a trip to Rio and wants to hire him. If he is interested, he can then get in contact with her. Hopefully, he will see this for what it is, an opportunity to stick his penis in another human being in exchange for what will probably be a pretty decent amount of money. I’m well aware that gay-for-pay is a thing in the saunas. Is heterosexual-for-pay a thing that is also out there? Do 35 year old women fly to Rio and hire 24 year old guys such as AARG? This is actually one of the reasons I like Brazil… learning Portuguese seems like something that might actually be possible whereas anything beyond very basic Thai has just always been something that is just never going to happen. In any case though, the concept in gay-American that I hoped/thought I was conveying was, “I want to top and I want to bottom for you.” (i.e. versatile). I think the phrase you posted translates to, “I am a top but I want to bottom for you.” which certainly won’t be an awful thing to say but not what I had in mind.

SP is just so huge though. I very much enjoyed the guys I met at Lagoa but had zero luck with the apps while in SP. Yes, I could see myself getting into the restaurant seen but that's hard when one's Portuguese doesn't really go much beyond, "Eu quero ser ativo e eu quero ser passivo por voce." As I get more familiar with Brazil, I suspect SP will grow on me but right now - being the newbie that I am - Rio is just so much easier. Wake up, wander across the street to the beach and as the day progresses, make the difficult decision as to whether or not I want to meet up with a guy from the apps or visit the sauna.

Thanks for the information. I’m only planning to spend one day in SP during my upcoming trip and I will definitely be looking to spend some time with Gustavo at MD on that day but most of my time will be spent in Rio and Porto Alegre. Does anyone know of similar massage places there by any chance?

Are there any places like Prince in Bangkok to go for massage in SP, Rio or Porto Alegre?
