@stevenkesslar Sorry if you already covered this ground, but of my nieces and nephews, I got the sense they were weary of the same "old" politicians, such as Biden, and that young voters aren't focused on Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. Is the above part of why they didn't vote last cycle? You hear a lot of ideas from your young Republican relatives, so am wondering how that impacts your prognosis for upcoming cycles. My fear is that some voters have given up, while others remain easily hoodwinked by what appears to be a "new" approach. Joni Ernst ran on "change", how she'd make the hogs squeal, cutting all that pork. She ended up accepting $ millions from the NRA. Trump trumpeted he would drain the swamp and run the Government successfully, like the businessman he is. But he is the biggest grifter of all. This term he's obviously leaving no money on the table. An economics teacher once told my class that dictators survive until they get too greedy. Perhaps that angle will trickle down into voting patterns. Or perhaps, as you mention, Democrats will play a better game of social media influence. I am aghast how many Latino voters supported Trump. Perhaps my rejection of their choice to vote for 🍊 is part of the big blind spot Democrats suffer. What do we miss? How do Dems form a winning campaign? I'm already hearing some of the never-Trumper ex-GOP vloggers that I follow whine about Zohran Mamdani. Obviously the MAGA crowd is stirring up a bunch of 💩 about him. Makes me wonder if he is viable. His youth and handsome looks help, IMO. Yet, I worry is he another candidate that smells fresh but will soon sour in office. Mamdani is an awfully nice guy. But I look at Mayor Brandon Johnson, how his poll numbers have dropped. Trump as well as corporate media have not been kind to Mayor Johnson. I expect Mamdani will have a tough time.

Mearsheimer is right. In fact, I consider much of what Trump does as a distraction from his ultimate goal of grifting and growing his wealth and power. Admitting how gay this Website is, and how Trumpuppet is suddenly horny for NATO, one might also admit how NATO can't possibly be excited to meet with a leader with such a tiny, baby penis, whose wife hates him as much as everybody thinks. You're right. Must be the nukes.

The fall of the Shah is a good example how regime change can lead to something much, much worse. Persian students at universities in the States warned the Shah was guilty of crimes. I wonder if they realized what Islamic extremists would bring.

The US bombed Iran today. Having a stupid moron for President is getting more and more dangerous. Would have been so much cheaper if dumbPOTUS wouldn't have torn up Obama's deal with Iran. Does today's US attack mean King Baby is taking time out from sucking Put!n's

WILL KRISTI NOEM KILL THE PETS LEFT AFTER DEPORTATIONS??
Pete1111 replied to Bingo T Dog's topic in Politics
Have you smart guys heard of something called DEI? Kristi Noem has unique skill sets. Doesn't Kristi bring special qualities to the DHS position? Sorry, I'm in a goofy mood. The LA ICE detentions have me in a funk.😩 -

I was young and closeted when his Saturday morning show was on. Loved it. A good documentary! Sheds light on what the LA cops were up to. -

Yes, Boeing has a reputation of overprioritizing profits above everything, yet the Air India crash is a good example of why it may be best to avoid believing in theories offered by unedited content on the internet, whether blaming Boeing or something else. While we wait for answers from the crash investigations, I appreciate how the Royals included a moment of silence and wore black arm bands to pay respect to the air crash victims, during the Sovereign's Birthday Parade on Saturday An example for the rest.

The troops were not excited to march. This isn't what they signed up for.

WILL KRISTI NOEM KILL THE PETS LEFT AFTER DEPORTATIONS??
Pete1111 replied to Bingo T Dog's topic in Politics
While discussing Noem with his guests Friday, Bill Maher called Noem "honey" and "sweetheart", that LA can handle it, we don't need her bullshit. It was funny and striking how he told her to calm the fuck down and go away. -

The parade turned out to be a flop. Trump probably questioned if the parade strategy was a bad idea. I imagine he pictured it would be tremendous, the likes of which America has never seen, the streets packed with his devoted supporters. Sorry Donald. Your's was small and limp. . Rocket Man packs a bigger one.

Maybe a little too old. When he was first approached about the role Chalamet was the right age. I forgot why filming waited. Probably money. -
Your Five Favourite Books - And Why?
Pete1111 replied to PeterRS's topic in Theater, Movies, Art and Literature
@PeterRS I could go on and on how much the movie omitted. Aciman tells us how Elio must be an extremely attractive boy, on the cusp of becoming a man, and how Oliver represented everything a teenage boy like Elio would look up to. Really, everyone liked Oliver. They had a nickname for him, the movie star. Elio recalled a missed opportunity when he had been in Rome wondering around, how he drew interest from young men that found Elio quite fetching, and how one kept his arm around Elio, not wanting to let go, even after Elio turned him down. It is no wonder how Oliver fell for Elio and how Elio pined for Oliver. Even the little girl from next door confronted Elio how she could tell how much Oliver liked him. Oliver's challenge in the book was how to tell a teenager you love him. He tried twice. Much of that angst was missing from the movie. I get it. That's what happens when a screenplay is adapted. Yet, if the casting had got the ages right, the movie would have worked more than it did. -

I have a copy of The Brothers Karamazov. At some point I'll read it. That it's a translation reminds me how translation can have an effect. I took part in on-line debates regarding Elio and Oliver in Call Me by Your Name and am convinced some of the disagreements on what really happened stemmed from the translation into French or Spanish editions read by members of that group. -
