I agree just go. I was there once in September the wettest month and you tend to get short heavy showers but it very rarely rains all day. Have fun.

Lunch at Le Normandie restaurant in the Mandarin Oriental. Very expensive but magnificent. My favourite restaurant in the world.

Bangkok has a bewildering range of 5 star hotels and they are fantastic value. On my last visit I stayed at an older hotel, Plaza Athenee, recently renovated and very luxurious with a magnificent lagoon size swimming pool. Bangkok has my favourite restaurant in the world, Le Normandie at the Oriental. Very expensive but an all round magnificent experience. Service incredible. Bangkok, I can’t wait to return!

Some people love Bangkok some hate it. Personally I love it. The excitement, buzz, of a bustling Asian city! Nothing like it! Can’t wait to return.

Regarding safety you might be on to something. I was mugged nearly in front of the Copacabana Palace Hotel on my first trip to Rio. Copacabana is not safe.

Trilingual was a founding father of the Gay Travel Brazil website which provided a wealth of information for many visitors to Brazil. The site was well moderated and courtesy, respect and civility was the order of the day.

There was a typo in my post. It should have read Fragata moved then closed. Regarding timing, late afternoon onwards is usually the case however one big qualification. You can be lucky any time and it only takes one to make an evening (or afternoon!)

It is not unreasonable for a newbie to seek clarification on the sauna scene. I have been to Brazil 9 times although, for obvious reasons, not for a few years. The scene has changed dramatically in that time. In São Paulo Fragata moved the closed and Lagoa changed address. Information has been provided on this forum but I have sympathy for someone new absorbing it all.

With respect that location would be convenient for 117 but very little else.

Go back to my hotel and sleep it off.
