    I think it was the New York Times travel editor who once described São Paulo as “ the ugliest and most dangerous city you’re ever likely to love.” I have been there 9 times and echo this opinion.

    Exactly. With the wonderful rent boy saunas why risk being a victim of crime cruising? I was mugged at knifepoint by 3 thugs once on Rio in the main street almost in front of the Copacabana Palace. I can testify that Rio in particular has a crime problem.

    The set up in those days was that you walked in got changed and wandered around the premises where the boys were sitting around or playing games. The “hostess” would point out the attributes of the boys present and make recommendations. The guy I chose on that memorable day was just arrived and the hostess stated the obvious that he was a bodybuilder. I repeat that was 2001.

    Payment is after the event. The boy will wait in a bathroom alcove between the locker area and reception. You go to your locker retrieve the agreed fee and give it to the boy in the alcove. The guys know the rules of the game.

    Yes 25 years ago and it was fantastic and beautiful to remember.

    Can you elaborate? In 2001 to be precise I had a massage there from the most stunning looking Thai man I have ever laid eyes on. It was magical in every way. The experience was not repeated on a few subsequent visits. I haven’t been there years and the venue doesn’t get the mention that Prince, Senso and Arena does on this forum. Up to date information welcome and appreciated.

    The Raya gets very mixed reviews on TripAdvisor. It’s certainly not for everyone.

    How I agree with you about the old Hero. It was the best gay massage venue by a very wide margin. Nothing has equaled it.
