Finally, I'm Euro too and don't think the entire Italian justice system is fucked up. However, I do know that this particular prosecutor has a history of fuck ups and has even gone to jail for abuse of power and thinks Satanism is behind most crime in Italy. At one point during a serial killer investigation a few years ago he got the brilliant theory that even though the M.O. was the same in many, many killings and they could prove that only one gun was used this prosecutor decided that the thought the killings were done by a secret cabal of government officials who had decided they could only stay in power by making ritualistic offerings of the dead to ancient dark gods. He has proven himself to be a nut job who has prosecuted innocent people before and used illegal interrogation techniques and is currently being investigated for planting false evident in multiple cases not related to Amanda Knox. In short, he has zero credibility and is both insane and corrupt. That's not an indictment of the Italian judicial system - it's an indictment of a a single bad apple.
