Here's the Rolling Stone article, which is great, if you haven't read it yet. -
One Million Moms to JC Penney: fire Ellen, she's gay

Yeah, love Howard Stern on these issues! I posted the Rolling Stone article when I first heard him talk about it. -
First, it's not a life if it can not live independently of the organism which doesn't wish to host it. Second, the fucktard Republicans trying to force all these babies to be born, it's their typical hypocrisy on the most grand and self-evident scale yet: Possibility one: The family doesn't feel they can afford the baby. NO, the republicans say, this baby MUST be born even though it will further impoverish your family... then they take a breath and decry welfare mothers, social assistance, etc... Possibility two: There is no family, the mother is not in love with the father (or worse). DOESN'T MATTER, the republicans scream, it must live, even to be born into an unloving home or an orphanage is far preferable, because we say so! Then they take a breath and decry gays as unfit parents and a horrible danger to families. Possibility three: The baby appears to have a significant problem which may endanger the mother's life, may prevent it from being able to survive birth without extraordinary measures, and is likely to be a massive and lifelong burden on the family. This is where the republicans are at their most foul. This baby must be born, "partial birth abortion" is satan himself reaching into that womb! But the profit-driven insurance they insist on isn't going to pick up all the costs, societal programs to help or even institutionalize the child if needed *they've* gutted. And of course the cherry on the top is their assumption that if one of theirs needs one of these procedures they'll simply always have the ability to fly somewhere and get it taken care of.

I'm looking forward to seeing it, hopefully tomorrow.

Because then there's nothing the foreign hackers could do to make them *worse* for accomplishing anything productive with? Actually, OneFinger, MS products consistently come out ahead of Apple products in security bake offs. So you're right, the only benefit they have is obscurity but given how much that has shrunk combined with a higher average net worth of owners, that's likely to change soon. In fact an exploit just recently made the news. And the fact they've done little to prepare for this shift will certainly give it a bigger impact as it does expand. But the real inherent flaw is the general ways Apple products pat you on the head and say "it's OK, you don't need to worry about that... look! shiny!"

Yeah, definitely see the resemblance there!

Maybe some of you have seen this, I just discovered it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=in9SiDtJLaU

Want to do more than just bitch about the state of affairs?

I kinda like the idea of Credo though, I think they're the same people who used to provide phone service too. Much better to support a company that works (even superficially, though I think the do more) for positive causes than to support companies like AT&T and Citibank which are quite obviously working against consumers! -
You're missing a lot, but it can be very hard to follow. I read the books and still lose track of who some people are. The first season was mostly setup (just like the first book), with not much happening other than cool atmosphere... but the second season has some good action so far.

Saw this description of almost all Depp's movies online the other day... sounds about right: Directed by Tim Burton: Johnny Depp is eccentric and creepy with pale makeup.

TNT rocks! Why can't other (non-premium) networks be that good?

Don't get me wrong, I fully agree something is much better than nothing, and much needs to be done, I just wish there were ways to do more. I'm kind of jaded because much of the batshittery limiting/censoring the Internet is coming directly from my own representatives, bought and paid for by Hollywood... my contacting them did fuck all. I think it's clear money speaks, and if there isn't a candidate you believe strongly in there's lobbying and legal aid organizations. For my interest, the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) is pretty relevant. -
Yeah, now that my libraries are private FUCK THEM, so my books as well as everything else around the house I can't use anymore goes to Out of the Closet. Because fuck the proselytizing, gay employee discriminating fucking fucks at Goodwill and Salvation Army!

I loved Buffy, but it's because the characters grow on you over the course of the seasons. I think what hooked me was seeing a really good character episode from season 3 or 4, THEN I was able to enjoy the whole thing, plus Angel. Still haven't tried Supernatural or Fringe, though I hear great things about both. Eureka (despite being on SciFi) is pretty damn good in it's final season so far. The Lost Girl ads make it sound interesting too...

There's something (to me) really smarmy in the Burn Notice actor's voice, and since he narrates much of the episodes it's pretty grating. I put up with that, because I liked much of the rest of the show, especially Bruce Campbell... UNTIL some of the grating voiceovers became horrible product placement for Hyundai and such. Then I gave it up. Anybody else getting sick of this BS? It's everything USA networks/SciFi, but has also recently spread to House! Have seen shows where in a dramatic moment they stop to have a conversation about how great the nav system in this new Highlander is, or the autobrake feature on the Taurus... grr!

I enjoyed the season with Michelle Forbes but after that it seemed to be getting into the vampires, werewolves and love triangles stuff that bores me to tears so I stopped. One day I may watch it all... maybe... one day. I also liked the none too subtle commentary on gays/gay rights inherent to the first several seasons, though it seemed very heavy-handed and worse... lacking any point...

Wow, not a single place in LA, only two in all of California? None in Vegas either despite all the high-dollar celebrity chef type places their as well? This list seems a bit snobbish and Paris-centric, to me. But on the other hand maybe the food in France really is *that* good!

Thanks for the heads up! I've been slacking off a bit lately as I've been busy with work. And it's getting late... but at least I'm finding stuff I really want to comment on tonight!

I do this as well, especially since we don't have many used book stores in CA. *At least I did*--before my town sold their fucking libraries for a song to a for-profit company expressly to split from the LA Public Library system.

Jon Stewart had pretty good coverage of this as well! But I can't find it right now.

Copied that bookmark for a more in-depth look in the future, though at first glance I'm dubious of the efficacy of online petitions or contacting "your representatives". -
New "Dark Knight Rises" trailer released (causing a lot of buzz)
JKane replied to a topic in The Beer Bar
Except once it does finally come out it'll be the end! Though if Avengers is good we have some solace in the fact they're already optioning actors for 5 more movies! -
Maybe it's different for my generation. We didn't have a JFK, RFK, MLK, or Lennon. Some my age are big on Cobain, but I never got that. I can't think of anybody as inspiring *in* "my generation" as footage of people like Murrow or those already mentioned remains...

Sorkin and HBO sound like one hell of a match, I'll have to watch for this one! Also, while season 1 of Game of Thrones was good season 2 has thus far been FUCKING GREAT!
