Networks announce a lot of cancellations and renewals on Friday
JKane replied to a topic in The Beer Bar
I've been watching The Finder, it's been vaguely amusing at best. House seems to be going out of their way to jump the shark in their last season, not sure I'll watch anymore. Only other things I've seen on this canceled list are Pan Am and Alcatraz, good riddance to both! Thought I heard Touch was gone... too bad. That and Once Upon a Time lost me at about 2 episodes each. I'd heard Parks and Rec was canned...? I'm also a fan of Castle. -

Had you worried there, didn't I? ;o) ONLY about 1190 more needed to hit the magic number! ;o/ -
Yep, a Mormon nattering on about the sanctity of marriage is *almost* as hypocritical as all the other conservatives with multiple divorces...
-
That is the biggest problem. There's nothing that will make you lose weight if you haven't gotten to a point in your life where you are determined to do it, no excuses. Some people never hit that point. All you can do is push/shove them in the right direction. Paying for somebody you care for to get bypass is a baaad idea. Something more like you'll reimburse them 33% a year for 3 years if they continue to improve their health is a much better idea. Or once they get healthy you'll pay for the excess skin removal--wish I had somebody to do that for me!

Yeah, people doing risky behaviors could benefit, except the likelihood of them paying that price *and* remembering to take it daily are net to nothing. Now, for somebody in a relationship with somebdy po

There's a lot to be said for the many positive effects of a healthy meal and a good workout in the morning! Make yourself do it every other day, start slow, you'll improve! I barely made it to rowing 500m and couldn't jog/run continuously for 3 minutes when I started, am now able to go 10X those numbers and do many other things I couldn't imagine doing before! Now, I swear I have more energy when I get up early and hit the gym than when I just roll over and sleep all morning!

And I'm rounding the corner on 1500 posts! -
Overall I agree, but at the same time, pills like Alli help some and are likely to get better (and are great for the drug manufacturers because they're more a continuous helping hand than a cure). There's also research into changing the intestinal flora. Just like quitting smoking it can be a combination of techniques that help somebody get healthy--as long as they have the core drive to do it. When they don't, it's not likely anything can help them, as all the people who've eaten around lap-band or bypass surgery show.

It's official! San Diego is First City in Nation to Name Street for Harvey Milk After Unanimous City Council Vote The San Diego City Council has voted unanimously to name a street after Harvey Milk, the Union Tribune reports: The two-block road leading up to the San Diego LGBT Community Center in Hillcrest will be changed from Blaine Avenue to Harvey Milk Street in honor of the late San Francisco supervisor, the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California. “This is a great day of pride for our community, our district and this city,” said Councilman Todd Gloria, who represents the Hillcrest area and is openly gay. Councilwoman Lorie Zapf joined the unanimous vote, despite past comments critical of homosexuality. She once called it a sin and that gays should not be allowed to hold public office. She has apologized for what she said during her 2010 campaign. The street signs will be changed by May 22, what would have been Milk's 82nd birthday. I want one of those! (The t-shirt, not the twink, though now that you mention it...)

And yet our tax dollars still subsidize corn being made into corn syrup... Still, there's far more info out there on ways to become healthy now and more and more are turning to it. And while some medical efforts have gone down in flames (phen phen), it's a high-profit potential so a lot of money is going into lots of various research which may help. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out by 2030 that obesity is much like smoking is regarded today and is at similar lows.

Ok, I can see where you're coming from, as I obviously have a thing for VFX too. My only concern is that what we've seen from the trailers looks kind of like ILM loaded the files for Transformers, swapped out a couple things and hit re-render... But what they showed of Rihanna's "acting" in the trailers was pretty awful, and I noticed she says one word in the final trailer... too bad there's no 'autotune' for acting! I'd also like to see more of the John Carter actor, though it's hard to imagine seeing *much* more of him than was on the screen for almost every moment of John Carter!! ;o)

Seriously Expat, you're THE ONE waiting for Battleship?

I appreciate these points and the chance to re-examine my views. I wish to emphasize I was calling nobody here a fucktard--just the hypocritical idiots of the Republican party! ;o) I've suggested a line, though the edge is blurred by medical science and the fact that medically viable babies can be born with detectable lifetime deformities of the mind or body. But again, there's the hypocrisy--if it's better for those babies to be born than be aborted, why do *the exact same* lawmakers cut family assistance up to institutionalization (where necessary) *every chance they get*? How's this for a litmus test: a fetus becomes a baby the moment a "pro-life" lawmaker is willing/able to adopt it and pay all expenses?
-
You'd really rather the baby had her for a mother? Late term abortions are had out of tragic medical necessity, not on a whim or for spite. I didn't say without assistance. Without extraordinary measures is a good benchmark. This BS about helping a fertilized egg not implant (as happens naturally very often anyway) being murder is insane. Still murder, yes, absolutely. Though one good point is that the mother won't get pregnant again in prison! Here's an idea, how about giving that mother as much and as free access to contraception as possible in the first place? How the fuck can "the right" justify cutting this, not to mention sex education...??? Then we can work on making sure she has plenty of pre-natal care options, including the tests which reveal defects as early as possible, and if she--in consultation with her doctor and family chooses to terminate they have reasonably local access to what is needed instead of having to hop on a plane to Canada/Europe (like everybody of means will always keep as an option) or resorting to a coathanger/etc just like before Roe vs. Wade?

For Democrats it's more a perpetual state of disappointment, of being let down. The truly reprehensible stuff comes out of GOP leadership's mouths (then Dems acquiesce... after a brief protest).

STEPHEN FRY! Though the format would hamstring his intellect. I always got the impression Trebek is nothing special without his que cards... Guess I'll just have to make do with QI.
-
Again, because nobody's targeting you it may feel secure, but it doesn't make it the case... Thing is, I haven't had real problems on PCs in several years either. Once MS released a pretty good security product free that covered most things, the last couple bouts of malware I had to deal with weren't too bad and that was over a year ago (on computers I support, never a problem on mine). Windows was also first to offer things like hard drive encryption and biometrics through stuff like TPM which inherently makes them clearly superior as business laptops. I think Android phones can also have their data encrypted.

Agreed, but I think Iraq is especially our responsibility as we took one of the only secular (and fairly tolerant of a lot of things, though I don't know their history on LGBT) governments in the middle east and turned it into as clusterfuck religious civil war followed by whatever the fuck this is...
-
No, then he would've said he's soft in the head!

Really enjoyed it, heard it broke some records too. I saw it in 2D, will probably see again in 3D soon. Batman will probably re-break those records, but I'm looking forward to the Avengers follow-ons.

LGBT Slaughter in Iraq I don't know enough about this source to promote them for donations, but it's an issue that needs more attention...
